I enjoyed the live set lists last year. They made you feel like you were a little bit involved. This year though the thread after Hop Farm depressed me and so I stopped reading them every concert. I can only cope with a little negativity in my life.

He started center stage on harp and then went to the Grand piano.

Glad to hear that he started out on center stage and soon hit the Grander stuff...

Nice! Thanks Bill & Sully.
And Alrik & Clarx did a nice job feeding songs live, thanks all!

Best show I've ever seen and add to that the fact that through our lovely daughter Hannah and the brilliant Ed Ward we got to meet Tony, Charlie and Donnie before the show - a truly unforgettable evening in a fab venue!

Glad you joined in the conversation. It's just Clarx, me, you and the Dogg. I think folks are a little bored with the repetitive lists these days...Glad to hear he was sound checking Tom Thumb's though.

I'm sorry that you guys feel like you're all alone on here, but I for one always follow the tour, and enjoy reading your comments. I guess that I just don't have anything to add, and I think that you're doing a great job. I just don't have to log in to read about Bob's tour, and being sort of lazy, I don't. Don't feel like you're all alone--I would imagine that there are a lot of people just like me that are reading everything they can about Bob and the tour, so thank you to everybody for posting everything for us.

Well it,s the morning after and it is great to bask in the early morning sunshine and reflect on last night's great show. How good it was to hear Trying' to get to heaven and look up at the story skies above the Arenes. We asked Tony and Charlie if this was the oldest venue they ever played in (25 B.C)?

They thought it probably was. Charlie was amazed and impressed at just how old the fabulous Arenes are. Maybe I shall look to see if anywhere in countries like Israel (think not tho) or Egypt etc. Still I don' t think the Romans could have foreseen such a wonderful show taking place 2037 years on ...

As promised a few thoughts from last night...
Firstly the Arena was spectacular and young Cohen was excellent and a great warm up act, so by the time Dylan came on stage I was in great spirits. This was helped when those who stormed the front were removed from blocking my front row seat by the stewards 8) Directly Infront of Bobs keyboard and piano, it was time to take it all in.
Leopard and Dont Think were nice openers, I was pleased to hear his voice so strong after a tough schedule and a big weekend. The first song of interest for me was Things Have Changed where it became clear Bob was also in great spirits. He really delivered it in story form as if telling it as personal to a new audience. Bob chuckled midsong (at the bible line, must have been the 2,000 year old arena) and seemed to be really enjoying himself. Tangled went down superbly centre stage and had some lovely harmonica that fired up the crowd, but it was Trying to get to Heaven that stole the show for me. Delicate rendition that really works with the piano and vocals again were strong, his voice really fits this kind of song these days - same with Sugar Baby, both were emotive and supremely delivered. Was great to see Bob laughing during fun songs (Rollin and tumblin, Tweedle) and then treat these songs so seriously , it made for a great mix and his commitment to the songs was evident. It did look like he couldn't get comfortable though, physically the shows must take their toll, but their delivery could not be faulted.
Before the standard finish, we got Visions and Twist of Fate which both got big receptions from a very excited crowd. Thin Man started front stage but he reverted to his seat at the grand piano and it was amazing to see him play this on the keys, it was one of the best versions (if not the best) I've ever seen. The last 3 were pretty standard for the seasoned follower but were adored by the large crowd and turning back to see their response it was obvious they'd loved this performance - so had I. I've never heard so much disappointment when the lights came on , they were on a high and hungry for more.
Ended up drinking with Nimes' left wing French political group leader in his bar til 3:30 (everywhere had shut) so have just about regained my ability to type, Yesterday he quite liked Dylan, today he's a fan. Nimes will remember the day Bob Dylan won them over.

A night I'll never forget. See you in Lyon Bob.

Indeed many thanks for a great review of an outstanding show last night (our first Bobshow ever in France). I agree that TTGTH was the highlight of the evening, but in amongst so many highlights (including those sparkling down on us from high above the arenes!)

Good show yesterday, I think mostly thanks to the fact Bob was enjoying himself at the grand piano. Voice better than last time I saw him, but mostly reciting and not much singing. But what I enjoyed the most was the piano, that sounds much better than the organ and the way Bob played it in most of the songs. And most of them had a jazzy feel that I bnever heard in previous shows.

The setlist wasn't the one of my dreams, but I enjoyed songs I didn't expect to, like Rollin' and tumblin' or Summer days. I liked Things have changed much better than a year ago. Simple twist of fate was great, and Tryin' to get to heaven too, changing the singing from the version I heard recently live in 2011 in Hamburg and 2008 in Encamp. Ballad of a thin man was great too. It seems he felt inspired midways and ran to the piano.

When there was stage rush in Like a rolling stone, I ran there, ending in front of the front row (where by that time there was nobody). I think I never had seen Bob so close, as he wasn't very far in the stage. In Like a rolling stone he seemed to feel bad. I could see in his face that something was wrong. It was his seat. He tried to move it while playing and singing at least twice, but only at the end of the song he managed to do it properly apparently with some anger. When he started All along the watchtower his face had changed completely and he seemed way more pleased.

It is also remarcable the huge amount of cameras the organization didn't let enter the venue, making some of their owners wait for half an hour to have it back.

Can you please indicate when, during the 1974 Tour of America with the Band, Bob Dylan played the piano on Ballad Of A Thin Man?

My impression was all shows, though perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me. But I'm pretty sure about the one I saw myself. . . .
