Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, CANADA - It’s not every day a legend's management company is on the other end of the phone line asking about your venue. But when it happens, like it did with the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds, the welcome mat was rolled out for Bob Dylan to perform there in August. The Border City will be the site of his first show of a 14-stop summer tour. “He’s an icon,” said Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds general manager Mike Sidoryk. “We’re very excited. It’s going to be the biggest outdoor concert Lloydminster has seen.”
Generally, when radio stations tease their next concert announcements a certain level of hyperbole is warranted.  After all, without a 15,000-seat venue, it’s tough to bring in what would be considered a truly ‘huge’ act. On Monday, there was no exaggeration needed. Lloyd FM and the Goat both got the buzz rolling with the announcement that Dylan was performing on Aug. 10. And after some initial shock on social media sites like Twitter, the phones started to ring at the exhibition grounds offices with people looking for information. “From there, it’s move forward and put a great show on,” said Sydorik.
The 71-year-old is following in Elton John’s footsteps and playing smaller venues across Western Canada. In the spring, John played Grande Prairie and Lethbridge, bypassing Edmonton and Calgary altogether. There will be 4,500 tickets sold for the event – – 3,000 in the grandstand and another 1,500 standing in front of the stage. The setup will be similar to that for concerts held during Colonial Days with a bigger stage setup. “I wouldn’t wait long for tickets, we’re already starting to get a lot of calls,” said Sidoryk.
One of the most influential artists of the last 50 years, Dylan has made over 30 studio albums with numerous hits including The Times They Are A-Changin’, Mr. Tambourine Man, Knockin’ on Heavens’s Door, Forever Young and Like a Rolling Stone. --Colin Budd

What's taking so long with the setlist?

I got tickets for Lloydminster, Lethbridge, and Regina. If I had known before that he was going to be playing Saskatchewan, I wouldn't have bought tickets for Lloyd and Leth Because, when the fall tour hits, he's going to have a new record out and he's going to be playing songs from the new album and possibly tour or all time debuts! I can't wait to hear live versions of his new songs which I haven't even heard yet!

I was privileged to be at the show where he debuted Thunder On The Mountain in '06. I don't know how many in the crowd knew it at the time, but I definitely told the people sitting around me. They didn't seem all that impressed. Maybe they secretly knew he was going to play it at pretty much every single show for the next six years. Still, it sounded great to me!

Who knows? Maybe Lethbridge will get the first-ever live performance of Early Roman Kings.

Not sure why I wrote Lethbridge and not Lloydminster there. Weird. Prophetic? Probably not, but we shall see...

I really hope not, but I think he's going to wait until the album is out before he pulls anything out. We'll hear something on the stadium tour later in the year.

I'm looking at going to Lloyd but don't have tickets yet. All that's available on ticketmaster is grandstand seating. I've checked some sites (i.e. kijiji) for standing GA tickets but haven't had much luck. Any idea where I can pick up two GA Standing tickets at this time?

I have a gut feeling that the piano will be no more.

From the few recordings I heard, it sounded like the band was holding back even more when Bob was on the piano to allow him the lead. When he was on keyboard, the sound was fuller. Though it's nice to hear Bob on piano (and he is sounding pretty good!), I can't appreciate his band putting themselves in an even lower gear.

They're working on things, rehearsing on stage. It's real good already and will get even better - wait and hear.
