Absolutely. A pity the one on Cold Irons seems to have been dropped.

They used some echo on watchtower in 2006 or so and I thought it sounded silly...this is much better but I'd rather have my Dylan straight up.

More interesting is the companion video for RDW - How long has the "They'll stone you...They'll stone you..." final verse been around? I don't remember ever hearing this. Maybe I should stop skipping songs I don't like...

It is for sure on purpose.......you can tell when you see and hear it live that he waits for it........... and it really is very, very cool..... I had heard of it before the Sunday show, but had not listened to it.........and it kinda makes ya jump the first time...........

These videos don't do the concerts justice. Based on what I'd been seeing/hearing on the videos, I was braced for the worse when I went to last night's concert. But the concert really bears little resemblance to the videos. I suppose it is because the videos that make it to the internet are probably from phones??? poor quality ??

I wonder if that might be one reason Sony keeps removing them from youtube? I notice you can still see the old videos from Rolling Thunder on youtube, but they take down all the new stuff.

It's a shame that the videos do Bob such a disservice, because I bet alot of people decide NOT to go see him based upon what they see and hear on these tapes.

What do you all think?

I really enjoyed those videos from the Israel show someone had posted. Bob sounded great. It was a perfect capture. I don't know what kind of equipment they used, but it reminded me of the sound from shows I've been to over the past few years. It definitely has a lot to do with how his shows are recorded. A lot of the stuff on youtube that they delete...I can't really say that I blame Bob, presumably it's Bob....for making the decision to control what gets out there. It's a lot of low-fi overkill and a poor representation of his shows, all the stuff that shows up on youtube from cel phone cams etc. But I do wish they would leave some of the good stuff up.

The echo effect is terribly tacky, it does the song disservice, a song which is powerful enough not to need any gimmick such as the use of an artificial echo.

Yeah, but did it start at the beginning of that summer '11 tour or at which show did they first used it?

in your opinion, Ms. DebbieAbsolutist

i didn't like it when i heard it on the recording. it was pretty cool and well done live. and he uses it almost like another instrument. interesting to see the way he used it differently in 2012..

my guess is that it may have appeared in Europe that summer - pretty sure it was there at the start of the US tour, but i don't have any recordings saved to verify. i do know i heard it in Nashville, and that i had heard it on recordings prior to nashville.

well that youtube above is from europe - we'll need someone else to weigh in i suppose...

I was under the assumption that this place is filled with people with opinions, I didn't realize I was such an anomaly :D

Let the echo decide if he was right or wrong.

well that's pretty accurate, fair enough - actually the person who politely uses 'imo' regularly is the bigger anomaly... :)
