i have read some of these posts from guy fletcher- a little too, life styles of the rich and famous from where i sit, it seems it must be easy to get very spoiled

Guy is a great person, very down to earth and we are extremely fortunate that he takes the time and effort to give us these glimpses of life on the road with a touring band, warts and all! Not only that, every day, he answers our questions on his forum - sometimes the answer appears almost as soon as it is posted! He doesn't have to do this for us, he does it because he wants to! Does Bob and his band give such a service as this?

At least, thanks to Guy's efforts, we know what happens behind the scenes with MK's band, but we know little or nothing about the lifestyle on the road of BD, except what Guy (and Richard) tells us about Bob's band, who seem to be a great bunch of guys.

BTW Regarding hotel complaints. What about Bob? He probably has complaints too, but we will never know.

thanks for your comment- i was thinking about that tour diary type thing, but i kind of think bob's songs are his tour diary in a way, you know, like when he sings hard rain etc., maybe this is very abstract and inaccurate, and it is not to knock what guy fletcher is trying to do, because that is a different way to express himself

Will this be a problem for both Mark and Bob?

There was an article / MK interview recently stating each was going to do a 75 min set.

Dylan doesn't play sets as short as 75 minutes. They're always longer than that.

^ agreed, yes, but that is when he is on 'solo' with the band, but when co-headlining, the sets are usually cut.

We'll see. Maybe what the article mentions is "contract time", like as per contract it's been said he has to do 90 minutes for Bob only shows, and he usually does more. So 75 mins would make sense for a double header.

What was he doing for time slots in Europe with MK last time, Joey?

Thanks Sphere...

a couple of quips from Guy:

MK & Band arrived in Chicago two days ago:
Production rehearsal day - You're most likely wondering why, where even what, we are doing in Chicago when the first show is in Winnipeg, Canada. It was decided to do a production rehearsal day in an arena in Grand Forks due to its close proximity to the border. Our respective crews are always grateful for the opportunity to do a full load-in and rig set-up in advance. For the band it's just a couple of days off to acclimatize and a brief run through. Our first travel day within the continent comes with a weather warning and as is evident on the Weather Channel, Grand Forks ND is in the headlines. The first winter storm of the season is taking place today of all days, right where we are heading....

Yesterday:
The arena was only a couple of miles away and our drivers whisked us there in no time where we were re-united with our crew and some of Bob's PA and lighting boys. Handshakes and hugs. I guess Bob and band were already on the road to Winnipeg having been in town for a few days. Naturally, our crew boys had everything ready for us so we inserted our in-ears and ran through a few tunes. It sounded fantastic and we were on our way back to the airport within an hour and a half for a short hop onward to Winnipeg and into Canada...

That bus that Guy Fletcher calls a 1949 Scenic Cruiser is where the free Dylan pamphlets come from. They'll probably be at all the shows.

I recognized it from the New England shows last month, unmistakable actually...funny.

A snippet from Guy's diary prior to setting off to North America:

...It really does seem like only a few weeks ago we were assembled for rehearsals for our intrepid outing with the 'poet laureate of rock 'n' roll. The voice of the promise of the 60s counterculture. The guy who forced folk into bed with rock. Who donned makeup in the 70s and disappeared into a haze of substance abuse. Who emerged to find Jesus.......etc...etc... Mr. Bob Dylan!'

Since our last show at the nostalgic Hammersmith Odeon back in 2011, Bob has hardly stopped gigging and recording having toured South America and parts of the US pausing only to record his new album 'Tempest', which I listen to as I write this. Now a year on, we look forward to re-acquainting ourselves with Bob's band and crew who were so accommodating last year. We had many great times backstage, before the shows not least our jam sessions with fiddles, banjos, whistles and accordions. The European tour was obviously a success and I would even venture to say that Bob enjoyed having us around, although I could never say for sure.

but but but..... where are the sex and drugs????

The best line in the whole thing is from Paris where "there is a lobster in every toilet". That actually reminds me of Ford Open Prison (not far from me or Mr Matt, about half way twixt us I'd guess) where a well known villain DID have a lobster in his cistern and would have it replaced each time he ate one.

There is one very odd photograph though, with two of Knobflers band standing in the street and just behind them is a guy who is bald and looks as if he is a half size replica of a normal human (or the other two guys are giants), Is Mr Knobfler a bald half size replica? I know he is a geordie, I wonder if he speaks like Sid The Sexist?

Apart from the lack of sex and drugs, which is a shame as they don't have to fizzle out once one reaches a 'certain age' as John Entwhistle proved so heroically, I quite enjoyed this peek into the life of a guy who doesn't have to carry his own amp and 'inhales' fruit salad. But please Mr Fletcher (echoes of Porridge....) more debauchery if you don't mind!
