Expecting Rain

Bob seems to be playing a new guitar in the first video clips from the Winnipeg show. Looks like a blackguard Telecaster, maybe this reissue model http://www.fender.com/en-DE/products/americanvintage/ Or a custom made (non-Fender) instrument. Does anybody who was at the show have any additional information?

I was told by someone last tour that Bob was having another guitar built for him by a manufacturer in Greenwich Village - the same builder that made his last guitar.

Perhaps it's that guitar. Does it look like it could be?

The previous guitar (the Eaglecaster) was made by Kelly Guitars. So the new guitar could be a Kelly-made guitar based on the 1952 Telecaster. Kelly Guitars: http://www.kellyguitars.com/specs.html

Looks like a normal Tele to me, could be wrong. It would be hard to tell the difference unless theres a really close up picture.

Does anyone know who named the guitar Eaglecaster?

The one used last night sounds similar to me. I know that's not very technical but it does.

The "Eaglecaster" name comes from the people who build the guitar at Kelly Guitars. If you check the current Kelly Guitars/Carmine Street Guitars website and go to "Customs" there are some beautiful close-ups of other Eaglecasters.

Yes, could be a vintage Fender Telecaster or a Fender reissue or custom guitar like the 2012 "American Vintage '52 Telecaster". But many Kelly-made guitars are based on Fender instruments and from a distance and under stage lights would look like Fender guitars. Kelly Guitars apparently use 100-year-old wood for their custom builds, which resonates differently.

Do you happen to know what David Hidalgo usually plays? That seems like something you would know.

I like his sound on Duquesne Whistle a lot. And his style.

Thank you! I think there's a chance Hidalgo could sit in with Bob's band when they cross paths in Seattle or Vancouver coming up. I forget which city it is. Los Lobos is opening for Neil Young & Crazy Horse for the majority of the tour (up until the last segment). I wouldn't bet on Hidalgo sitting in with Bob but that would be a treat. I bet Hidalgo would love to.

Sorry for going on about something unrelated to the thread. I'm certainly interested in Bob's guitar as well. Let's not forget about that.

Disregard this nonsense about David Hidalgo. I had it in my head that the two tours were crossing paths but now I see that they are not.

Fun to think about though.

Bob's had a yellow Telecaster with the black guard for years upon years, I saw him using it in 92. Whether it was the same geetar or not, I don't know, but he also played a yellow Tele waaaaaaaaay back in Tour 74.

My Telecaster is identical, but Squire model,...

I don't know, to me it very closely resembles Stu's Telecaster, which looks like a '52 (or reissue) to me. I have a very beaten up '57 with a similar style but a white pickguard instead of the black. I've had it for almost 30 years and never had any real work done on it, but it has sentimental value.

No offense, but the wood on the tele model looks exactly like my living room table

I thought lately he used Duesenberg and then that old FGN strat? Or was that a Kelly?

About the Tele... I think it's a Fender. Usually, if you wanna play a Tele, you get a Fender.

The one with the eagle head has been used recently, that's the one.... Düsenberg is a few years past already.

For whatever reason, Dylan has not played Fender guitars since late 2008 and also stopped using Fender amps in 2009 (?), so I guess the new guitar is a custom model based on the Telecaster but not made by Fender.

How much does a guitar like that Eagle cost?

I was just curious because it's pretty beautiful with the carvings and all.
