I couldn't agree more with you there. Loved him last year in Hamburg. (Summer concert)

The "introduction" mentioned with Stu walking out first and playing sounds like it could be very Dramatic, in a good way.

In this video of Ballad Of A Thin Man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScIa5S4wTV4
there are several times when it looks like all of the Band members, and especially Stu & Charlie are pointed (the only word I can think of to describe it) toward Bob to add to the eeriness of the performance. The carnival rides in the background add to the overall effect too-But anyway, in that video, they really do all look very connected to each other within the music.

There was video of that One More Cup of Coffee on youtube for a while. As you know a lot of the videos get taken down. Some of my favorites from Lille last year are gone now too.

I actually should have said that Stu has played lead (on electric guitar) rather than taken solos. I think that is more accurate.

Belle, I think you might be right regarding the intro.
Sphere: thanks, I get what you're saying. It's my own hang ups regarding Stu.

ive listened to stus solo work on his site and really enjoy his style. He is a very good guitar player.. of course, or bob wouldnt have him hang this long. I had the good fortune to chat with him once ..for some time, and hes very polite and funny. A total gentleman. (wish i knew who he was tho, when we were talking but then, he probably would have been scared away.. as it was he was *safe* just relaxing in banter. How he and Tony must have laughed later on about the dumbass that didnt know who they were...What did i learn from this experience? Front row is Everything.  8) )

yea, stu plays the thing on watchtower, irregardless of who plays what, the hop farm is a great performance all around.

stu does what he does because thats the way bob likes it, i like it how they got going now, i dont like soloing i like interplay.

i remember he had a guitar player jackson that bob gave the evil eye all the time. one show on every grain of sand he played something and bob stopped playing and threw his hands up and turned to him and i thought was gonna take a swing at him. but he kept him on.

my fav lead player of bobs was bob circa 1992-93 when he played lead on the acoustic.

I've spoken to him at length before, too. He introduced me to a friend of his (another musician). I don't remember the guy's name. Anyway, Stu's very nice.

Excellent stuff! So glad he's brought She Belongs To Me back in, I was saying in another thread it would be great if you would play that. And the glasses and no hat, completely shocked! And the piano again, I didn't think he would bring the piano with him. Great stuff Bobby! :)

Was there a show since 2000 were Charlie looked not boring? - That's ok but tell me a show were Charlie was not playing boring. Thank god that we had/Have Larry and Stu ! BTW he does the kneeling again!

Theres two memorable performances from Charlie although you cannot hear him in that noise:
Looks like he had more fun with David than with Bob! (Note: Charlie was Support act)

First of all, Charlie looks bored, but is not boring - two very different things, that get lost in translation here sometimes. And even if you consider his playing to be boring indeed. I'm sure he does what Bob wants him to do, so it's Bob's "fault" as much as Charlie's if you consider his playing boring.

As for the two videos, he was less than 20 at the time, he was invited as a special guest and those were cover versions. How could he not love that?

It will be interesting to see what happens after the new album and if Charlie (and Stu) are on it at all. For all the praise Stu gets here, people tend to forget that he wasn't invited to play on the last two albums. David Hidalgos presence seems to indicate that it was not just the touring band that was involved in the sessions.

So I might've seen Charlie at age 20, huh. I wonder if he was there in Foxboro on that summer night in 1987? I was around row 3, center, GA. I remember being surprised when Frampton came out. Didn't know Charlie then.

I believe Duran Duran opened the US stadium shows, Sexton probably opened in Australia, where the official tour video mentioned above was recorded.

I don't recall the opener. If it was Duran Duran then I was probably drinking brew in the parking lot. I haven't found anything yet indicating if 20-year-old Charlie was there, but here's the set list:

I liked the show yesterday, personal topics 'tangled up in blue' , 'She belongs to me' , 'Desolation Row', Bobby in good mood, hmmmmmmmmmm... the location and everything around (including the rain on the end) that maybe typical for Berlin, incompetence is everything, the smallest things with the easiest solutions creates the biggest problems, therefore we have just too-------much of nothing here, but that's another fact what should not influence the joy of our heart when we see Bobby on stage !

Yep, there sure is.... maybe you should see him play in Texas.... I was on the rail at the Dell Diamond show when Charlie was the walk on.... and nobody on that stage....or in that crowd.... was bored!!!! :D
Then both Bob and Charlie were having a good time last year in New Braufels.... 8) (and both looking quite sharp too!!!)
As to the kneeling..... geeze, what is with you people who complain about that.... ain't you never spent time with up and coming bar bands???? They get in that habit in order to hear their own speakers..... so Charlie paid his dues doing bar bands.... just makes him all that much better!!!!!

The German reviews of the Berlin Show seem good. :)
From the one titled Reden ist Silber, Musizieren ist Gold
(Translated by Google as Speech is Silver, Gold is Making Music)
from the front page here:

"In the end, nearly 8,000 people to leave satisfied, the Citadel."

Earlier in the same article,

"He can still entertain: Dylan brought Berlin a anything but intellectually sober evening. Fit as a man of forty, he alternates between electric guitar, electric organ and a large black wings." That had to be something to behold!
