(it wasn't my intention to delete it, sorry. Here it is again),

Hi

this is the guy with the „inflated ego“ whose „crap“ and „bullshit“ is (is it?) discussed in this thread. God, I’m glad I’m not me.

I would have liked to thank you for your feedback but there isn’t one, I guess. It’s only insults. I’m not sure how I gained these harsh words but since I know who posted them (Berlin is such a small place), I know how to take them. Never mind. That’s what most discussion groups in the internet are about, right? They are not about art or communication but about insulting people you don’t know. Get up in the morning, have a cup of coffee and shit in front of other people’s virtual doors.

Just to avoid further disappointment (or defaecation) I’d like to clarify some things. Since Bob Dylan did not grant us an interview at this point (there might be one later) I was asked to put the release of his new album into context. So I wrote a feature on what Bob Dylan was all about in the last 25 years or so and included my impressions of „Tempest“. It was fun, there was no task force of the evil publisher in my back while I was writing (as some of you suggested).

So the piece is about Dylan’s understanding of history and truth and religion, his way of writing songs, the reception of his work in the media, Greil Marcus, the Titanic, John Lennon, the angel of history, Leo Zimmermann, Lonnie Johnson, Charlie Sexton, Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, Hollis Brown, the old, weird America and other dreams and schemes that lead to this remarkable album. I tried the best I could, it was not good enough for some people here. Others liked it tough. (There’s also a piece by the great German author and rambler Wolfgang Buescher about how „Blind Willie McTell“ made him walk from Berlin to Moscow).

But as you know there’ll be tons of features on this subject in the next weeks. So enjoy and discuss.

Best
Maik

Okay, so the interview you're expecting, I take it that's going to be the one the US colleagues already did with him last month? I was hoping / expecting this would run in the German edition, but I suppose it's going to be released in the US first.

i for one found the piece informative and the grading spot on. :D i can sympathize with wolfgang, on account of the tempest album, i got a hit team sent after me. but that was then and this is now, we live in the year of the 10 star bob record.
commendable work, maik. :D

if you would be so kind as to post any future bob features, the USA peeps would greatly appreciate as we dont have ready access to the german content, but would not want to miss any of your pieces.

i know its kinda shocking that folks at a bob forum seem to do a jumpin judy whenever bob gets a good write up. but things aint what they used to be things have changed.

Well okay.... could you use one of the new photos they took on the cover then, please? Thanks.

Thanks for posting here. I'm in the US without access to German RS (and German!) but you've made your piece sound very interesting and I wish I could read it

Sorry about the general crap around this particular thread. A lot of people on this site have their minds made up about what they believe is worth knowing about and what's totally irrelevant and their brains couldn't be unearthed by a master archeologist. But some of us are a lot more open and tolerant than that. Plus, flaming anyone who writes for publication about Dylan is a time-honored hobby on this site, sorry to say. Don't think it was anything particular about you. I'll lay odds it was just the general tenor of some people here who don't represent the site as a whole.

I hope you'll be back. Good luck to you!

There are occasions when it is appropriate to display goodwill. It's an ER tradition that goodwill is extended when a new member makes their first post here. Several of us remembered that - spot on, goombay, Harry, Charles, etc.

Indeed, welcome aboard Mr Fate and sincere thanks for posting your frustrations. Good for the soul. It would be good to have your input in these parts more frequently. At heart, we all share common ground in our passion for Mr. Zim. In that spirit, is there anything more you can share, purely as a fan, of what your impressions of the "remarkable" Tempest are and what we can expect?

Nope, and don't care. The last comment you made to something I wrote was - ' ' - a frequent comment by you that never reveals anything worth bothering about, I'm sorry to say. But I see that you made known what you wanted from the guy.

Nice point there, goombay. Stand up indeed.

It doesn't matter what you're talking about, JP. Decency rules.

Jack_Fate, welcome and sorry about the stupid personal attacks. Anonymity makes people devolve socially.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

@the_rev & MMD:
It's quite obvious that the thread starter and the Rolling Stone journalist know each other - the latter has stated this directly - so if you want to go on about personal attacks, start right there. Granted, we don't regularly get people from the business come to ER to discuss these things....

I just read the German RS.
I liked to read "Ein Land voller Geister", I liked the "sound" of the article. Of course I didn't listen to Tempest up till now, but I had the feeling to come closer to the Tempest-atmosphere.
I hope the promise of this RS-story will be verified by the album.

did you read the sincere commentay by the hotpress reviewer, a lady of great musical distinction? that she had to walk around the town square by herself in order to recollect her thoughts on the tempest bob album, so moved was she by what she heard?( i know the feeling i felt the same way when i heard TTL. )

doesnt anyone understand whats coming at ya?
its bob staring at ya square in the eyes, its not possible to get any better than that.

Damn! I missed all the entertainment again.
All the nasty stuff spliced away and on the cutting room floor.
Welcome to ER, Jack Fate, is it? One big happy family!
And thank you, Mr. Darwin, for keeping us in line.
