What is more annoying...People who justify that they don't like Dylan by doing a REALLY bad Dylan impression or people who say "I really like his lyrics but I can't stand his singing"? Just wondering. Whenever I talk about Dylan to random people I always get one of these responses.

If it's some high-schooler, it's probably just something they learned from SNL re-runs. They love copying what they see on television, and we all know SNL has poked fun at Mr. Dylan several times. Then again, most people love poking fun at things at some point in their lives.

The ones who mock him with a bad impression are worse, for sure. The second response,"I really like his lyrics but I can't stand his singing" at least shows some respect.

That is pretty horrible. Shows exactly what I'm talking about. I've heard hundreds of people do that impression. Age doesn't factor in...I've seen both teenagers and adults do this.

"I really like his lyrics but I can't stand his singing"

i dont see much of a problem with that. if they like his lyrics, thats enough for me not to dismiss them!!!! i love his voice, and it grows on you, but its just a matter of taste.... whilst his lyrics, there is no denying they are amazing!

I don't know. I kind of find some Dylan impressions pretty funny. I love Dylan, the whole package: voice, lyrics, melodies, harmonica playing, guitar. His voice is not to some peoples' taste but that's all right. As long as he's recognized as a brilliant songwriter that's good enough for me.

If you've ever seen the Royal Canadian Air Farce, it's a weekly show that satirizes politics, commercials, pop culture, etc. One of the members is Don Ferguson, who over the years has done some hilarious Dylan impressions. Here's a link to the skit they did when Chronicles Vol 1 came out. I love how he starts slipping in some famous lyrics here and there. I think this is funny, but that's just me. You'll need realplayer to see it:

You're right... but we're talking about bad impressions

That clip you watched was actually entered in a Dylan Imitator contest, the contest that got me started on my Dylan imitation.
Take a look here and scroll down.
No wonder he only got 5 votes! There are some other pretty bad ones and some good ones too.

I hate this one:

Me and a friend was arguing about the best rock album ever made. I said Highway 61, and I think he said something by Stones.
Then he said: Dylan writes maybe the best lyrics in the world, BUT THE MUSIC ISN´T THAT GOOD....

I never get annoyed by people who don't get Dylan. But I do feel
sorry for them. I can't imagine anyone not getting enjoyment out
of his songs, that transcends pleasure itself, verging on the
enlightenment of Nirvana, for example:

I got the pork chops, she got the pie
She ain’t no angel and neither am I
Shame on your greed, shame on your wicked schemes
I’ll say this, I don’t give a damn about your dreams

I always draw a line between people who don't like Dylan, and those who want to tell me that he's vastly overrated and a 3rd rate poet wannabe. Those are the people I carry pepper spray in anticipation of meeting.

"Man... Dylan's a joke! He can't write a lyric to save hi... OWWWW!!! OH GOD!!! MY EYES!!! MY EYES!!!!"

I tened to prefer chemical mace for the "The Beatles are SO overrated" crowd.

I'm going with really bad dylan impression. :?

I used to conversate with this uneducated bastard.
I was playing a mixed Dylan cd once and he was trying
to do a horrible impression of 'Lay Lady Lay'
it made me ears bleed.

Then we were speaking of the movie Potfest
and i was like - that'd be great if Willie Nelson is in it a lot
maybe they will take all great pot smokers, and give them a role.
Like Dylan and Phil Lesh - i was like wouldn't that be funny? Hah, and he was like ... I quote..

"Bob Dylan Smokes Pot?"

How idiotic can you be, i was like I knew Bod Dylan smoked pot before i even heard any of his music..

Man, he was one of those rebellious guys, who thought he listened to all this good music, when really he knew nothing. I'd tell him i was going to play a cd, or introduce him to a new band. He'd be like "I'm going to throw your cd against the wall and watch it break into a million pieces". Of course, this pissed me off - you know.... he never even listened to the cd before making this assumption. So closed minded - So scared to experience good music. Man, just to assume that it's something you've already heard before. It really angers me when people do this. I am so happy me and this guy aren't friends anymore . He made me life a living hell and i could never listen to good music. Going home and listening to dylan or dead was almost like an escape from being surrounded by Jack Johnson and Madonna when i'm there. (Not saying Madonna is a bad artist, cause of course she isnt. She's brilliant.) ... BUT , after you listen to those cds a million times every single day it gets boring. I like variety.. i'm not boring. :P

WOOHOO LONG STORY, I NEED A CIGARETTE SO BAD haah :)

Can I add one? I think the worst is: "I like Dylan songs when somebody else does them."

i don't have any probelm with people who say they don't like Dylan. they are allowed to not like how the music sounds, how his voice sounds..ect... i just have a problem with the people who don't like listening to him and don't respect him and what he had done for music.
