Which official Dylan albums do you not have in your collection and why?

I was re-sorting my music collection the other day and noticed that I have all the albums bar Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. It just seems that I never got round to buying it. Even when it was easily available in the stores I never picked it up, whereas everything else just got bought immediately. For some reason I've always thought of it as "incidental" without even having heard all of it!!!

I'm curious what other people's omissions are and why.

I had most everything and then started going through and eliminating the things I just don't play. Dylan & The Dead and Dylan flew outta here. If it wasn't for Brownsville Girl and Dark Eyes both Empire Burlesque and Knocked Out loaded woulda followed in a heartbeat. Saved didn't get, um, saved either.

I guess I became a fan of Dylan about a year ago. I saw him live in April and that solidified everything. I've done a good job catching up, I guess, but I'm missing a lot.

I have all the remastered albums, Basement Tapes, All Bootleg Series, Live 1962, Live 1963 sampler, some soundtracks with Dylan (he does such good songs for movies, Essential and Time Out of Mind. I guess, that's more then I thought but I put the other things off, cause I'm afraid they'll be released in remastered format the week after I buy them.

I have everything, even the less than stellar albums (down in the groove,Knocked out loaded)...technically, I still need are 3 more of those Maxi-single imports with like 3 or 4 songs on them. Hard to find, and pretty expensive. So far I only have the Things Have Changed single.

And then about 6 or 7 bootlegs..

I was in a record shop yesterday, which has a massive second-hand selection.

I don't have Knocked Out Loaded or Self Portrait and was flipping through the CDs under the D section looking for SP, after all the recent discussion on here about it.

What was even better, was that in the run-up to Christmas, the store was offering 20 per cent off.

They had Shot Of Love for £4 and Knocked Out Loaded for £5, which would have meant it would have cost just £4.

But for some reason I just couldn't bring myself to buy it.

Do you think I've made a mistake? It is worth having or not?

Shot of Love has Every Grain of Sand and is worth it for that alone (unless you have it elsewhere). Also, The Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar and Watered Down Love are worth listening to.

Knocked Out Loaded has, of course, Brownsville Girl - well worth the price of admission. I also like Maybe Someday a lot.

So, yes, you messed up bigtime

What kinda fan do you think I am? :P

I recently found out I'm very fond of KO Loaded. For a very long time I thought it was his worst.

Right now I don't like Under the Red Sky and parts of Down in the Groove. When Did You Leave Heaven? Come on.

I used to hate that song. Now I see some wierd humor in it.

Same goes for Saved. Only the religious mumbo-jumbo makes it too hard to listen to. I find myself in the morning, jumping in the bathroom shouting: I've been saved by the blood of the lamb!

Te nieighbors think I'm crazy. Sometimes I wonder if they're right.

At one time I had all the LPs up to “Desire,â€￾ but they got scattered to the winds when I was living the life of a shiftless bum. About the time of “Oh Mercyâ€￾ I started buying records again, so I have all the recent stuff.

I also got all the official CDs from the 1960s and lots of bootlegs from file sharing.

But I don’t have all the 70s and 80s albums on CD, just “New Morning,â€￾ “Blood on the Tracks,â€￾ and “Oh Mercy.â€￾

I know what’s on all the CDs I don’t have, but I’ve only felt a need to get certain individual tracks--namely these:
-- Copper Kettle
-- Minstrel Boy
-- Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door
-- Ballad of Ira Hayes
-- Spanish is the Loving Tongue
-- Watchin’ the River Flow
-- When I Paint My Masterpiece
-- Something There is about You
-- Forever Young
-- You Angel You
-- One More Cup of Coffee
-- You’re a Big Girl Now
-- Up to Me
-- Call Letter Blues
-- Shelter form the Storm
-- Changing of the Guards
-- Nobody 'cept You
-- Senor
-- Gotta Serve Somebody
-- I Believe in You
-- Need a Woman
-- Every Grain of Sand
-- Do Right By Me Baby
-- Heart of Mine
-- Dark Eyes
-- Groom Still Waiting at the Alter
-- Jokerman
-- Sweetheart Like You
-- License to Kill
-- Brownsville Girl
-- Cat’s in the Well
-- Romance in Durango
-- Series of Dreams

I might get all the 70s and 80s CDs eventually, but it’s not a high priority and I know they aren’t going to go away.

I don't have "Real Live"

for the simple reason i just haven't had the time to copie it from my mums disc, we spent ages looking for it Image and eventualy found it in cardiff under "Import" unfortunatly there was only one copie, and as she wanted it more than me, i said i would just copie it, i'v borrowd it, fantast version of "girl from the north country"

the other disks i don't have are the "the best of" collection i have the "greatest hits" but thats because there was one or 2 things on there that i didn't have, but the "best of " collection is always full prise where ever i look, and i have all the stuff on there so i just don't bother, end up buying something eles.

:D :D

I didn't have Saved until the other day. Got the LP on ebay for 99p. A friend who is crazy about soul recomended it. Not bad at all.

I only ones I haven't got are Knocked Out Loaded, Empire Burlesque, Down In The Groove, Shot Of Love and Under The Red Sky. As I have the greatest hits 3 which probably covers the highlightes of those albums I can't really see a time when I'll bother getting them.

Self Portrait
Dylan
Hard Rain
At Budokan
Saved
Knocked Out Loaded
Dylan & The Dead
Under The Red Sky

That seems like a lot now that I look at the list. The only album I doubt I'll get is Dylan & The Dead, only because I don't ever want to own any album with the Grateful Dead on it. As for the others- I'll get them when they're remastered, if not earlier. Self Portrait will be first.

I don't have Dylan&the Dead. I used to have Knocked Out Loaded on tape but little induces me to go looking for it. Thank god for the internet - I can just download Brownsville Girl and pretend the rest of the album never happened. Dylan and the 80s didn't get on well, even his best stuff is marred by the tinny production and horrible electronic high-hats fashionable at the time.

Official albums I don't have:

Great Hits Volume 3 - Cause I have all that stuff already
Dylan (Red Compilation) - See above
(I own the best of the mono recordings, but I have not bought each individual album re-issued in mono)
MTV's Unplugged - Cause I have the 2 disc bootleg, plus a VHS of the show. I should probably get the dvd.
I also own a VHS of the Last Waltz but not a dvd nor the cd.
I own the Dvd of the Concert for Bangladesh but not the cd.
I'm not even sure the above 2 should count.
I own pretty much everything - though I don't own that Masterpieces cd, though I only want it for the cover-art.

I have just about everything on vinyl except for Dylan. I don't consider it a real album.

I don't have masterpieces on vinyl because i haven't been to australia. i'd love to experience both.

there's a couple others i'm targeting, but not in a hurry to get because i love the thrill of the hunt, and i feel it will be a little while before another studio album is released.

Self Portrait and Knocked up loaded for obvious reasons (both are lousy and lack the one song that would make me want them). Budokan because I heartily dislike it. Dylan & the Dead because it never did much for me. Down in the Groove is pretty bad but I admit I have the vinyl.

I don't really care to buy Dylan and the Dead or the 30th Anniversary Celebration any time soon. They just don't interest me.
