Many great one's to choose from. Which one do you like best?

As good as Tambourine Man is from '64, and despite all the "boo's", Maggie's electric explosion a year later, I think the best would have to be North Country Blues from '63. Does it get any better? Well maybe something from Live 66 or Hard Rain might be better, but as far as the Newport Festival goes, that would be my cream of the crop.

What's yours?

Mine is Maggies Farm.

Those guys look like they just got transported down from another universe.

Chimes Of Freedom in '64 (fortunately officially released on NDH).

Second place is LARS in '65 -- my favorite live version of the song, not including the 1966 renditions. Don't know why it doesn't get more attention.

I choose Other - Chimes of Freedom from 1964. And what even makes it better is that the audience doesn't stop screaming for Bob after he is done and then goes "We want Bob, we want Bob!"

Desolation Row from 2002 is close though!

Yes , isn't that version the one where Bob says " thank you , LOVE you " ?
Great stuff :)

Good point. The original recorded version is impossible to surpass. Any NET performance is, of course, a total travesty, but I've never much enjoyed any live version, apart from Newport. He strains a bit too much, for my liking, in most of the '66 shows. I really like the first live outing for its control and restraint.

I could go for Chimes '64, too.

From the list, Maggie's Farm I enjoy a lot , but mostly for Bloomfield on guitar. The rest of it is a bit too ragged.

I chose the '64 "Mr. Tamborine Man" but, for the sake of clarity, I am choosing the July 24 afternoon workshop version rather than the July 26 performance. Dylan's '63 performance of "North Country Blues" surrounded by a who's who of the folk word including Doc Watson, Clarence Ashley and Judy Collins is a close second.

2002 for sure. The day after the surprise opening Worcester show where we stood in the rain on the sidewalk waiting for the doors to open. I Ain't Never Gonna Be The Same Again. Then the weather for Newport was beautiful! Gorgeous! As it was for Augusta, Maine and the Maritimes (Highwater dancing in Moncton!)...then Quebec and beyond. Those were the daze! 2002 Newport gets my vote.

Roving Gambler (acoustic)
The Times They Are A-Changin' (acoustic) (Larry on cittern)
Desolation Row (acoustic)
Mama, You Been On My Mind (acoustic) (Bob on harp)
Down In The Flood
Positively 4th Street
Subterranean Homesick Blues (Larry on slide guitar)
Cry A While (Larry on slide guitar)
Girl Of The North Country (acoustic) (Bob on harp)
Tangled Up In Blue (acoustic) (Bob on harp)
Mr. Tambourine Man (acoustic)
Summer Days (Tony on standup bass)
You Ain't Goin' Nowhere (Larry on pedal steel)
The Wicked Messenger (Bob on harp)
Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat
(encore)

Not Fade Away
Like A Rolling Stone
Blowin' In The Wind (acoustic)
All Along The Watchtower

Thank you Bill Pagel for keeping these set lists on file!

It hasn't really changed much in the past few decades really.

The Vocal Paralympics stage was a considerate, inclusive addition to the historic festival.

Bob supports some interesting causes like Feed America with his music and celebrity status. If he can raise awareness for the Vocal Paralympics and make others lives better by his presence, I'm all for that. Count me in! 8)
