I know every Dylan fan has his own personal favorite era. From my screenname I chose for this site, I think you can guess mine. For me it's Desire. Blood on The Tracks and Bringing It All Back Home aren't far off though

Oh mercy.

I know some can tell me about the older albums, but, if I understand You, You think of it as the most significative album to You, reflecting the moment You were born and the moment when You got into Dylan. Oh mercy is that special album to me. And Time out of mind is the following one.

Highway 61 Revisited--it seems like a fuller version of Bringing It All Back Home and a more concise version of Blonde On Blonde. Plus it has "Like A Rolling Stone" and "Desolation Row", so, you know.

My favourite Dylan studio album is his self-titled first album, Bob Dylan (I am not saying it is his best album, just my favourite). There is something about the exuberance of the guitar, harmonica and vocals that is terrifically compelling to me.

Also, with the different folk styles (flat picking on songs like Man of Constant Sorrow, finger-picking on Baby, Let Me Follow You Down, slide guitar playing on In My Time of Dying, Talking Blues - Talkin' New York, Original Songwriting - Song to Woody, old country songs, old blues songs, the various alternate guitar tunings, etc), the first album is almost a master class of what folk music can be. It has never ceased to thrill me.

I will go with
Image

Melodies? on par with Blonde on Blonde as the best he's ever come up with.
Performances? on par with H61 and Desire as the best singing he's ever done.
Arrangements? As energetic and diverse-sounding as Dylan has ever been (much more diverse than H61, on which every song sounds the same, except "Desolation Row"; maybe not quite as diverse as Blonde on Blonde, though)
Lyrics? easily the best he's ever come up with (certainly better than the two albums that follow this one!) -- has the most famous Dylan aphorisms of any LP
Classic tunes? try "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "She Belongs to Me", "Maggie's Farm", "Love Minus Zero", "Mr.Tambourine Man", "It's Alright, Ma" and "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" (= 7!!!)
Influence? pretty much influenced every strain of popular music to follow in the next 20 years, from pop to singer-songwriter to rap

All this in a compact 47 minutes. Cannot be beaten.

^this is exactly right. 2nd is Oh Mercy followed by Love and Theft...with Blood on the Tracks hovering over it all in a ghostly shroud.

Hard to split BoB and H61.

most accomplished album: BIABH or BOTT

best works of art - BoB H61

currently: Blood On The Tracks (half-speed master), edging Desire and Blonde On Blonde by a few short and curlies.

To avoid the misinterpretation of Blonde on Blonde as "Bob", I hereby suggest we use "Bl.o.Bl" as the new acronym. Alternatively, Blobl could suffice, or Blo-Blo.

The only alternative is to simply acquiesce and declare Blonde on Blonde to indeed be "Bob", which then means every other LP will also need a name. For example, Bringing it All Back Home could henceforth be "Brigitte" and Freewheelin' could be "Free Willy".

 ..i mean that whole thing was great - but that payoff there put aside every aspiration
i had toward a future in comedy. (applause..) That was, without exaggeration - side splitting. :!:

..and now to maintain the integrity of the thread - i confess 'John Wesley Harding' not only
to be my favorite Dylan studio album - but the finest recording ever made. 8) (opinion)
- and like others, i invite you to tune in tomorrow when you'll hear me say, Hey! Panther -
what's the new name for HWY 61 Revisited? .. 'Hiawatha' ? -and choose that one instead.

Blood on the Tracks over Times/BIABH/61/Blonde/JWH/TOOM, all of which are deserving

It depends on the season:
Spring - New Morning
Summer - Highway 61/ Blonde on Blonde
Fall - Desire
Winter - Time out of mind
