I was just reading yesterday that Chuck Berry Always asked for cash payment after he performed and would then just stuff it all into his pocket and take off out the door.

As far as I know Chuck Berry always asked for the payment before the show, else he didn´t perform.

Oh, was that his order of business? I just remembered the pocket part. Maybe he had some negative experiences with shady characters somewhere down the line to shape that practice.

New twist to my previous post on Masons. My Dad just asked me VERY seriously why I was looking up Masons. I told him that I was telling some people about them and my experiences as a Rainbow Girl. He wanted to know to whom (proper grammar - not sure??) I was telling this to. He never asks me about anything I look up so this was weird in itself as I google a lot of strange stuff in my quest for knowledge! I asked him if he knew where his Mason book was and he claimed he didn't. It appeared to me that he had taken some vows and he had taken them very seriously and he was not going to tell me anything which is strange also. He did say that Jews and Muslims could be Masons as they believed in one God and that they were outlawed in Italy and Germany during World War II. Secrecy about the organization is the main thing I remember as a Rainbow Girl; that and my Scarlett O'Hara hoop dress that I wore for the initiation - it was just like Scarlett's in the opening scene! :D It is obvious that he will tell me nothing about them; I think he may have taken his Masonic vows more seriously than his wedding vows and he has been a devoted, loving husband for as long as I can remember. I asked him about The Pyramid and The Eye and he pretended he couldn't hear me. I wonder if Bob is a Mason??? Love, Joanna XOXOX

I found this one while researching Thomas Paine, I remember Bob receiving a Tom Paine award back in the 60s. I wondered if Thomas Paine was a Freemason and stumbled upon this, quite interesting:

Do you think the bargain- and chief-commander-conclusion from the 60 minute-interview has anything to do with the masonry?

I´m really worried about Bob, hoping he´s not on any "dark side of the road".

I´m wondering if Bob is really a mason why he uses their symbols so intrusive in the public (on stage).

Chessboard floor, too, for a few years (lately, a compass rose).

But honestly, I do think Bob's well rooted in the Judeo-Christian faith.

Maybe the influence of Columbia on Bob was to big. As far as I know the most important members of Columbia a freemasons (the same with Sony).

It would be interesting to know, when Bob joined the masons or turned his focus on them. At my first Bob-concert in June 1998 I bought a shirt, where the eye is already imprinted.

I must say that I never had the impression that Bob is a very satisefied and balanced man. I don´t know if this has something to do with this mason-thing, but I think people who aren´t very satisfied are much more endangered to get in contact with a secret society or something like that. I always thought that Bob´s parmanent touring isn´t based on a great joy about this, but on some kind of dissatisfaction which must be balanced or pushed to the background. I might be wrong about all that and I really hope I´m wrong.

He most probably is. It may be a very very very specific understanding of Judeo-Christian faith, though. Bob's private Judeo-Christian heresy I would think. :D

Probably

It's not likely that a freemason would do that , is it? My theory is that he's making a Dylanesque joke again , either that or he's indeed crazy . I wouldn't mind that much , i would still listen to Bob even if he put a bomb in my house

it seems obvious to me that Bob never has and never will belong to any organization, you dont need to be part of any religion or group to make a deal with God

Can someone tell me when was the first time the logo was used?

Ah , the link's dead too.
It was the finale of masked and anonymous , where bob said :
I was always a singer and maybe no more then that. Sometimes it's not enough to know the meaning of things, sometimes we have to know what things don't mean as well. Like what does it mean to not know what the person you love is capable of? Things fall apart, especially all the neat order of rules and laws. The way we look at the world is the way we really are. See it from a fair garden and everything looks cheerful. Climb to a higher plateau and you'll see plunder and murder. Truth and beauty are in the eye of the beholder. I stopped trying to figure everything out a long time ago.

Well , i'm still trying to figure things out , though right now i wish that was the explanation

It's my understanding that each Mason is free to worship the God of their choice. Though an organization--it's really more of a fellowship that encourages individualty. Skimming through this page it's easy to see Bob finding it attractive and interesting...

I like Phantom Engineer's research and Stetson's too. I am going to have to read that link you put up very carefully Phantom , but other duties call me - chambermaid duties! Stetson, I think Bob would find the Masons very appealing and it was so weird how secretive and questionning my Dad was about the whole thing yesterday. Masked and anonymous in my own household; my Mom thought it was really strange. She said he would NEVER tell her about the ceremonies. I really think Bob is a Mason. Love, Joanna XOXOX

I bet we'll be on the news tomorrow!

Is rock legend Bob Dylan a freemason?

Personally, I don´t like "eye logo" either....On the other hand: I had a chessboard floor in my bathroom and I am not a freemason. But if I see it as a symbol - can it have any meaning that Bob Dylan stands between that symbol and the audience? And people want to see him, they don´t gaze at the picture all the time?

I agree with Burning Spear here. If Dylan is currently a freemason, this fits perfectly with his spiritual restlessness...

Burning Spear makes a very valid point. He doesn't always look like he enjoys touring, but I think he needs structure in his life - of course, I don't really know what Bob thinks, but being a Mason is very structured too. Maybe we should start a blog about this! It might get to The Daily Mail!! :D Love, Joanna XOXXO

If you are referring to the photo above, that's called a 'compass rose' that Bob's on. It's used to show the four cardinal directions, north, south, east, west. It has been found in both ancient Greece and Rome.
