cool beans. i'd like to be able to pretend i'm not interested in where bob lives and what his house is like and what he does at home etc. but it's actually really interesting to me...i mean it's a pretty peculiar thing to imagine Bob Dylan doing the dishes.

True. I think he also designed parts of his Malibu house, and I heard that if the construction workers did things different from how he imagined them, he practically showed them how he wanted it done.

There are lots of good stories about the house in Malibu..... but my very favorite is from an interview where they asked about the house..... seems that when they moved to California they went looking and found a house in a nice neighborhood where the kids could "ride their bikes to school"..... but it wasn't quite big enough. The decision was made to add a bedroom or two..... contractor hired and then Bob leaves town (tour or whatever)..... gets back and goes to check out the progress on the house..... "Where the hell the house go????"......... seems while he was out of town his Mrs. D. decided to do a bit more.... now it is not unusual in some communities that you can "remodel" a house in a certain area, but you cannot build a new one..... so what happens is they pull down everything except maybe a wall or two and then start building all over again.... as long as some of the original structure is there it is a "remodel" (Frank Lloyd Wright was quite famous in the early 1900's for making use of this idea) ..... well, it seems that instead of just adding a couple of rooms, Mrs. D. went ahead with the remodel..... but it seems that Bob was a bit surprised when he got there and the house was mostly gone..... but it does appear that he got in the spirit of it without too much trouble....

There was a story that Bob wanted to hang the front end of his first car from the ceiling.... and the contractor, who had been at it for a while and not that easily surprised anymore, didn't hardly miss a beat, just came right back with the question: 'with or without the engine still in it?" :P

I wrote to Halcyon Gallery and they replied tonight, saying there is no exhibition planned right now of Bob's metalwork.

:(

I would pay good money for a Dylan "eye" logo iron gate for my drive way. My wife may not be thrilled but it would look pretty cool in my neighborhood. No one has anything that awesome.

hardly worht mentioning as i cant rememebr the details. but I read somewhere a long time ago, bob had made someone a stool
no not a scatalogical joke.. a wooden stool anyone know mroe details of this..was it for his son.. or someones son.
regardelss id love to see his metal sculptures and his wooden ones too for that matter.. i was intrigued by what i saw with the chainsaw sculpting in "catch fire" I assumed the coloured wooden piece over the mantlepiece was one of his. i dont know for certain ... it was just a hunch. it looked sorta bob like.

I'm your man! Eye can see it now!

Let's just get our calendars together, then you can buy my tickets. I'll need a full day of discussion and planning and I'll provide you with a quote by the end of the day.

Delivery and installation in about a month!

Bob's brick verandah at Point Dume, Malibu

Moral of the story - don't design verandahs when under the influence of acid!!

^ Bob's terrace reminds me of this:
http://www.google.com/search?q=gaudi+gu ... 24&bih=551

I haven't been to Barcelona, but I like to look a pictures of Gaudi's architecture. Wonder if Bob had something like the serpentine bench in mind? Bob could have build the terrace better if he had just done it himself...I am sure he is a master bricklayer ! :D

My parents have been to Barcelona several times and the Gaudi Cathedral is absolutely amazing. I love to look at my Mom's pictures; she takes really good travel photos and probably missed her calling in life. Those are good pictures you have down below. I wish you a personal Bob made balcony, fence, or gate even though you don't like Budokan! I found it last night; life is good again! Is there anywhere in New Orleans with those kind of sculptures. They are unbelievable actually. Love, Joanna XOXOX

Grumpy, I DO NOT want one of your Dylan logos. Thank you and not that you were offering one, but keep it on your own property! Love, Joanna XOXOX

He refers to a freak accident with his hand in Chronicles, but doesn't say how it happened. Might be....

As for the gates, I hope/think he has some prettier things inside the property, that we haven't seen photos of.

I just received the catalogue for The Asia Series exhibit at the Gagosian Gallery. In an article by Richard Prince at the end of the book, he talks about going to Dylan's studio to see these works before the show and mentions that:

"Dylan has a second studio not far from the first. This one is industrial - a warehouse where he builds and fabricates iron gates. Gates - what a great idea. Decorative. Functional. Sculptural. There were racks and shelves and drawers filled with all things iron. From hammers to sickles, wrenches, scissors, engine parts, manifolds, exhaust pipes, nuts and bolts, camshafts, handlebars, more bicycle parts, wrought iron, pic iron, even the first part of an electric iron. There were weather vanes. There were straight pieces of iron with different gauges, curlicues, mandalas, and sun dials. They were all organized and inventoried....Dylan lays out the different shapes and creates a pattern and then welds everything together. After the weld, he powder coats the parts, or sometimes just sands off the rust and paints them black...."

So, I guess he does make iron gates. I'd love to see samples!
