Whether it was in '63 or some NET show that people refer to as a yearly highlight.

Glasgow Barrowlands in '04 probably, followed by the London '05 residency.
Mind you, I only started in 2002.

I dunno if "frequently mentioned" describes 'em, but here are some candidates:

The 5/16/80 show here in Pgh. seems to draw some interest coz of the inclusion of "Lay Lady Lay" on the set list, it being the only secular song performed on the '80 gospel tour. Actually, the song wasn't "performed" at all. Some guy kept screaming for it all night, so Bob played the opening chords & invited him on stage to sing it. When they guy made no overtures toward the stage, Bob stopped playing & went on to the next song.

Bob uttered something at the 7/16/91 show in Pgh. that I've seen quoted often, after he performed "Folsom Prison Blues:"
"If Johnny Cash isn't in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, there shouldn't be a Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame."
(Cash was inducted in '92. Coincidence?)

I've seen songs from the 8/20/06 show in Washington, PA pop up in a couple bootleg compilations, so it must be a relatively high-regarded show.

That's all I got.

.... add to this his comment at Live Aid that started Farm Aid..... It ain't no wonder he doesn't talk at concerts...

Yeah, the only really special thing I have had is when Charlie showed up in Round Rock as a "guest"..... cool show!!!!

and the fabulous suit and black and white cowboy boots he was wearing in New Braufels last year.... but that was just us girls talking about that and I don't think that is what you mean.... :P

Interesting thread.... I would say:

Vicar St 00
Barrowlands 04
Dublin II Point 05 (this one just won't go away and has periodically cropped up in online discussions as being a modern NET classic)

I believe the most notable concert I've seen is the August 15, 2002, show in Hamburg, NY. This is the first show that used the now-familiar long introduction. At that time, you couldn't help but be conditioned to hear the straight-forward "Good evening ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Columbia recording artist, Bob Dylan." I can remember being totally taken aback by this night's intro as it was happening, and not really catching it all as it went by in a blur. Haze of substance abuse?? Written off as a has-been? Emerged to find Jesus? Am I hearing this right??? I couldn't wait to get home to check ER and get the low-down on what all exactly was said.

Anyway, it ain't much...but that's my contribution.

A review of Barrowlands made it into the official tour program last year.

For the most part I don't really think anything post 2000 comes up to many shows before that date.

I saw the final night at Wembley 17 Ocober 1987 and also the final night at Hammersmith Odeon 1990 plus 28 July 1981 at Earl'e Court. All seen generllay as something special - and they were too.

Three spring to mind, all in London and all way back when :

01 July 1981 at Earls Court, when he started to sing 'Here comes the sun' before realising he couldn't remember the words and so changed it to 'Girl from the north country', and when he also played four songs from the (then) new album 'Shot of Love' to everyone's amazement.

14 October 1987 at Wembley Arena, on the last night of the 'Temple in Flames' tour with Tom Petty and Roger McGuinn, when he was joined on stage by George Harrison, and the final encore was 'Go Down, Moses'.

08 February 1990 at Hammersmith Odeon - his last night there that year, and his piano-playing debut in England with 'Disease of Conceit' - total magic, and the audience went crazy!

I think all three shows are still quite often mentioned - they are by me anyway ......

Sorry, I see they were also just mentioned by arthurprecarious! Great minds think almost alike, except for a little confusion over dates. That long ago though, who's noticing?

Yep! That's the one I was at and, as Mr Whatsit said, the crowd were going apeshit! Great shows!! Only a year later he was deep in the abyss with a new band featuring John Jackson. They got better but it was an awful set of shows in 91.

Yes she is

Also I didn't mean to imply that was my video, only that I saved it to my computer when it was posted. It's great though, right? :D

Well, the final '74 Los Angeles show is at least the one most frequently mentioned by my friends--and me. Yeah, I'm aware of Bob's own criticisms of that tour--and, I think they're valid; after all, given the nuance and subtlety in his work, why would he try to sing practically every song as if it were LARS? But, we were seeing him for the first time--and, after years of believing that we'd never see him at all! It's a night I'll never forget.

Some of the shows I've personally been to that seem to get some mention include...

gospel shows spring 80 (I saw the two albany shows, he was doing almost the entire 'saved' album before it was even recorded..)

the last night of the dylan/petty nyc madison square garden shows, with ronnie wood and the encore of 'house of the risin' sun'

two of the dylan/grateful dead shows (rfk stadium and meadowlands, shows 2 and 3 of only 6, I think)

jones beach 1988 (near the beginning of the NET), both nights (the first of which is circulating in sdbd)

that show at the beacon theater (89? 90?) where he played harp with a long mic cord, jumped from the stage and made his exit walking up the side aisle of the audience as the band kept playing

one of the 'supper club' shows in '93 (I was there early set second night)

tramps (with elvis costello in the encore) in '99

the next night at mad.sq garden where 'highlands' was played

2001, Madison sq garden, first show in nyc after 9/11, 'highwater' never sounded so timely... and lots of celebs in the audience

2002, both shows at MSG, where he broke out 'yea heavy and a bottle of bread' at the first one ,and georg harrison's 'something' at the second

2008 and 2009 at united palace theater, nyc..

theres more but at least some of those have gotten mention 'round here...

I probably should have added the Brixton 05 show where he did the only live rendition of Million Dollar Bash and did about a minute of London's Calling which drove the place mental (in a good sense)

For me that would have been the evening of December 31st, 1971 at the Academy of Music in NYC. Not certain that you can qualify it as a Dylan show- as it was really The Band's gig, but to see him walk out and perform that night with them was a thrill I will never forget. Never thought I would see him perform live up to that time. There may have been better shows I have seen from him since but this was the first.
