The Lanois wall of sound, so effective with Not Dark Yet, seeks to locate Dylan in a washing machine and then put him on Spin Turbo. The song never recovers, Masked and Anonymous served up a more effective and palatable version.

Moonlight isn't L & T's finest moment. Shake is grizzly enough but doesn't advance Dylan's blues legacy.

My vote goes for the painterly minimalism of Nettie Moore.

Cold Irons Bound from M&A is better than the studio version. Can I pick that? :) I prefer Moonlight just slightly over Nettie Moore but I love them both. I don't have TTL yet, but I have listened to Shake Shake on youtube. It's nice. I like how he really goes into his deep register and the guitar is nice, but it is probably my least favorite of the four.

I went with "Moonlight." Anybody wanting to check out the definitive version of this song should grab Maria Muldaur's Heart of Mine album.

Predictable response. You have very little knowledge or understanding of American roots music, & every time Bob visits the blues, country, or swing, it's a sure bet that you'll post that it's "shite" or "cheesy." While not all of his recent material is great, often it's more a matter of you not understanding these genres.

Maria Muldaur, aka "the Queen of American Roots Music," has said that "Moonlight" is the best song that Bob's ever written. Altho' many of the lyrics most assuredly aren't his, I find that it succeeds in recapturing the sound & feel of a 1940's American popular song.

I can understand you not being able to relate to the song. What I don't understand is your need to insult somebody's intelligence with your replies. I guess this makes you feel better about yourself. While that's sad, I remain unimpressed. I doubt that any ER members over the age of 12 are impressed either.

Cold Irons Bound is the best Dylan track that I almost never feel like listening to.

So, I went with Nettie Moore, which I feel like listening to substantially more often.
