I wouldn't be so sure about Dylan (1973) since it was re-released as part of the iTunes complete albums package.

Any box set which includes 'Down In The Groove' but neglects 'Dylan' is about as worthwhile as an iPad.

I don't think that Sony will gives us this pleasure.

Will it include the B-sides Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground and the re-done Let It Be Me?

Also, by my approximation, in the last 25 years Bob has released approx. 40 (or more) individual tracks on soundtracks, various artist sets, etc. etc. In some cases, there are works of true, true Genius such as 'Cross the Green Mountain, Tell Ol' Bill, even I'm Not There that have been relegated to a soundtrack. (WTF?) Even great tracks such as Boogie Woogie Country Girl and Bob's very fun Ring of Fire are on obscure collections.

So, I'd pay good dough to see a 4 or 5 (or more) set of ALL of these, including both versions of People Get Ready.

P.S.

Is Ultimative a word?

Normally I wouldn't even remotely consider this.

But as my entire Bob collection was recently stolen, and I was planning on re-buying the whole deal over the course of the next year or two anyway...I am pondering it. This Ultimative CD set may indeed be heaven sent, just for me.

I think I would buy it, especially if all of these things you mentioned are included. Being new to Dylan's music, I feel like I am on the constant hunt for songs that exist outside of the studio and official bootleg series. I'm sure there are many out there, that I am not even aware of and sometimes it gets daunting. I still don't even have his entire discography, yet. It is way out of my price range, but I would save and figure out a way to purchase if all of that was included. Am I a sucker? Probably, but I also really like continuity. Having a nice, attractive, concise, all inclusive package is very appealing to me.

Hey RG, I don't think you are a sucker at all! In fact this collection seems designed for you, and also JS who had his collection stolen. (Unbelievable!)

If this collection works for anybody, that's great. But for anyone who already owns a complete set of the Man's work, it is duplication.

So, I am hoping for a separate set of the rarities and goodies.

I was really hoping for another Bootleg Series though.

I'll probably buy it. I bought the iTunes collection a couple of years ago, but that doesn't stop me. I'm a Dylan fan, goddammit, it's fun to use a lot of money on a nice package with all the albums, and I mean that seriously. I think it'll be great! A good occasion for taking a new look at his work.

Columbia/Sony stop releasing crap we already have in different formats!!! I know it's Bob's 50th year in the music business but come on. Seriously you couldn't have find another way to cash in on his name and music. Here's some ideas how about some new music or better yet release 2 albums of new music, new installment in the bootleg series, something like he 30th concert. For $300 to buy everything I already own Bob better come to my door and thank me.

I don't want Sony at my doorstep, but Bob would be welcome. However, I don't see how this box set excludes the possibility of another release this year. More money, more publicity....

This must have been crushing! I've had plenty of stuff and money stolen from me over the years, but nothing I REALLY valued, like this.

Assuming an average price of 7–9 US-Dollars per album on CD and with the regular catalog including approximately 50 albums, the 300 Dollar box is much cheaper than buying the albums separately. Plus the box will apparently include non-album compilation, soundtrack and single tracks that are rare and out of print.

Basically it looks like it's going to be an updated, physical release of the 2006 iTunes release "The Bob Dylan Collection", so I think it will include "Dylan" (1973).

I saw Bob Dylan was trending on yahoo and that got my curiosity. When I hit the link, the first thing I saw was...

COMPLETE COLLECTION

and I thought...Blonde on Blonde. It's finally gonna happen! My holy grail is going to happen!
Thank you Jeff Rosen! Thank you Bob Dylan! Thank you Sony...

Then I read it was a repackage of all the stuff I've bought over the last 27 years and already own several times over.

In a week when I had an MRI to rule out a brain tumor and still need to rule out cancer, I am so bummed out I could cry. I may just need to resign myself to the fact I'll probably be 6 feet under before this becomes a reality.

In two years time I am gonna buy a plot of land and use the 2nd hand boxsets of this as walls, then surround them with hay and mud and build an eco-friendly house of vinyl, cd and cardboard. Plus some 78's for the shellac just for that insect aura. Sony can release as many as they want - I already have all the dylan recordings a man could need except the stuff he hasn't released yet.... I intend to play THAT once the house is built (so don't stop now Bob...). If Blobby wishes to come round for some jam he is welcome. He can even play my sacred Guild if he really feels like it, and my fireplace will be very homely.

I cannot imagine paying 300 bucks to hear George Jackson, but then I HAVE ALREADY GOT IT. Wouldn't it be better if we went back to the days when you heard a song, remembered it, and then played yr own version? Then again maybe Bobs mansion is made of jukeboxes?

Thanks! I asked because it seems that on amazon.co.uk the prices for most Dylan albums are between 3 and 6 quid (except for the '73 "Dylan" album, of course). Therefore, it seemed like a close call. However, I did not take into account that dollars aren't worth anything anymore. So I guess the upcoming box set really is the cheaper alternative.

I am very happy for John B Stetson and Raging Glory.
This set sounds like a perfect fit for those needs.
Congrats!

At least Christmas In The Heart will sound waaaay better that way.

Hope you get a negative on the big C and you turn that corner soon.....
