Interesting to note that while Bob played concerts in China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Ireland, the UK, Israel, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, the UK (again), France, Belgium, Holland, Germany (again), Denmark (again), Sweden (again), Austria, Italy (again) and Switzerland (again), he made only one tour of the US in 2011, the last show being in August. So far this year there have been 16 concerts booked in Latin America and 14 in Europe, but no US dates yet. Presuming he takes a break after the European tour, that will make it a full calendar year without a show in the States (excluding the Scorsese tribute appearance). Is this the first time since 1986?

OMG  that can't happen..... Hey Bob, how about you stop by Texas on your way thru from Mexico, have a little show here in Austin and then you can go on your way across the pond..... that way you will have a US show on the calendar!!!! you know, just a suggestion... :P

his sending a message to Americans to get off their asses and visit Mexico City. I hear the fall tour is all about Canada.

You're logic is good. Mexico City is well worth the visit. I spent a very active month there once and barely scratched the surface.

Bob has not been back to his home state since election night, 2008. Something's up, I tells ya.

i'd love to go. i still haven't been to Mehico. if i had any kind of travel funds i'd be there - especially since i haven't been to a tour closer yet either...

@ John I think there was a recent picture that showed up of him visiting Duluth. and there's another election night right around the corner!

Hmmn, haven't seen the photo from Duluth, I'll hunt that down. Yes! This did occur to me--that maybe he'd be back on election night. I suppose it's ever so slightly possible it's the state in which he is registered to vote. If he votes.

I think he really likes going to these out of the way places. Also, I think he's letting the interest build in the states until the new album hits. And since I'm talking out my ass tonight...I think he'll play colleges to promote it when it does come out.

i was thinking a college tour would be coming too. seems to be entering a rockin' out phase again.

Or, with Knopfler, he'll attempt the fancy old person venues (Chicago Theater anyone???)

would be a nice prequel for 2014s tour with Clapton that fills the Auditorium theater again!

Beautiful as it is, I don't generally like the Auditorium for rock shows. Dylan and guitar onstage with no microphone is more what it was built for, and it's brillantly designed for that purpose. It can't handle all that amplification and heavy bass. I'll take him in the mad swirl of the Aragon Ballroom anyday. But, yeah, smaller places in the urban centers too. I think that's how he promoted Time Out of Mind - a college tour followed by club dates in LA, Chicago, New York et al. Metro in Chicago's case.

"A full calendar year without a show in the US?....... "Is this the first time since 1986?"

I saw my first 3 Dylan shows in 1986, He was good with the back up singers/girlfriends/wives etc in the band, and Tom Petty's Heartbreakers alone and together too. So you need to chill and do a bit more fact checkin. I've heard he's going to be out on the election trail come election time pushing his new all acoustic protest album "Oh-bama"

I saw him in 1986 too, in Japan. Great fun, with a tear-inducing cover of Sukiyaki as an encore. As to chillin' and fact checkin' I don't quite get your point.

Specifically, August 1986 to July 1987 without any US dates.

a year is a year no mater what the plane is - Voice's point stands.

masterpeace is either not living up to his avatar's name or is a bad speller.

not a good day for fights.

A "calendar year" runs from January 1 to December 31. Correct title for this thread is "A full year without a show in the US?" Let's hope the answer is "no". I'm hoping for a full West Coast tour with a week long Los Angeles residency, though I've been hoping for that for awhile...

You're absolutely right. It's a strange calendar that starts in August! English is my second language. Shame I don't have a first.

well if we are going to split hairs we should say a full, contemporary Gregorian Calendar year, nothing is simple around here.
