Oh, I could teach him. Not singing, but the language. :P

From what I can tell, he did well in Spanish, Italian and Latin.

By Thomas Hardy (1912)

It will be interesting (if the rumour about the song proves true) to see if Bob Dylan was inspired in any way by Hardy's thoughts on the Titanic.

I see Hardy was a ripe 72 when he wrote this wonderfully perceptive lament. Should the rumour be true, it will also be interesting to see how young Dylan, a mere 71 today, fares creatively against his illustrious predecessor. Tough act to follow.

Yeah, but those languages when sung actually sound soothing to the ear. Again, no offense. I love Germany and German folk and hauling ass up the Autobahn.
Wall Street Journal is saying the new album will be out this summer. What do you think?

Fall equinox falls around Sept 21 so yes.
And, regarding the Beatles German singing. Thank you for making my point.

You're just not used to people singing in languages other than your own. Try imagining for a moment English wasn't your first language.

It was in an interview about Christmas in the Heart:
"I’ve sung in French, Italian and Spanish. Over the years, Columbia has asked me to do records in those languages and I recorded stuff here and there. None of the tracks have been released though. It’s hard deciding whether to do a translation of one of my own songs, or an original song in one of those languages – which I’m actually more partial to. I’ve always wanted to do some Edith Piaf songs."

But well, he said some songs were recorded, would be good for a bootleg series..

he defenitely recorded some of his songs in spanish. he had some spanish girlfriends that encouraged him, i met one once, in the most bizarre of circumstances.

it was many many years ago.
the best part of the story is how i got to meet her. i had a friend who was a banker, who owned one album down in the groove; whenever i was around he would play the ugliest world in the world even in a room full of people. he would tell everyone folks i have something i want you to hear, and he would play that sucker. then he would stutter along with bob in the part there. it was big fun for him.
one day he was in the elevator with his boss and his boss started singing boots of spanish leather. right there and then he got a new appreciation for bob and his music. he said his boss loved that hurricane 75 show and had a cassette of it since college but it broke and he was heartbroken could i hook him up.
fast forward a few months later. i get a call from him he was a restaurant with a big client,
who he was wineing and dining. he said it was a big rich dentist and he was there with
his 'executive assistant'. hmmm i asked a dentist has an executive assistant. yes he said and you know who she was before she was an executive assistant? no who. then he started singing that ugliest girl song. he had one of those lunctime martinins to many. but he wasnt lyin.
i got to speak to her and she told the story how it was the record companies idea. how the songs werent to be strictly translated but made up so they made some sense in spanish. she helped him to make them up and also helped him in singing in spanish right with the right inflections. the whole affair didnt go too good as bob had big problems with the singing.
i also remember her saying something along the lines that record company wanted bob to do
joint albums with different artists, he would do a song and then the other aritst would follow with an answer song. if my memory serves, one of the artists was serge gainsbourg so there is where the french songs may came in.

i havent seen her in long time but if i see my friend again ill ask if he knows is she is still around. i have the idea she may be.

here is another good one'

THE MYSTERY OF THE DUNBAR CHILD
Richard "Rabbit" Brown

(It was in the) month of August in the year of 1912
The kidnapping of the Dunbar's Child that was a mystery sad to tell.
It was down on Lake Swayze on a warm and sunny day.
Everyone was enjoying happiness at a pic-a-nic gave that day.

You know the two children they wandered off, Bobby and Conrad alone.
When the returning of the other child, he just said, "Oh, Bobby's gone."
Where did little Bobby go? Everyone liked to know.
And they all started searching Opelousas and along Lake Swayze's shore.

You know they searched and searched for miles around, almost the whole night long.
No one couldn't imagine where poor Bobby Dunbar's gone.
Well, they dragged the lake and they dynamite almost the whole next day
Until someone had suspicion that some kidnapper taken Bobby away.

A reward was then offered to see if Bobby could be found.
Everyone joined in the search, you know, in and out the town.
No one heard of anything, you know, about that missing child.
The father and mother of the Dunbar child it drove them almost wild.

For months and months they look and listen to hear something of their boy,
And at last they heard about Walter's child, that he called his pride and joy.
They were summoned to Hub, Mississippi—you know, that little country town—
And everyone shouted out with joy, so glad Bobby had been found.

You know that he was taken in custody, given to the Dunbar brave and bold.
But the Dunbars' ... tale to tell: "That's my child that Walter stole."
Oh, Walter was taken to prison and he was placed in and Opelousas jail,
And he was charged for kidnapping (without any put up) bail.

He says "I'm an innocent man, and believe a wretch like me.
If I could see the Governor face to face, I am sure he would set me free.
Julia Anderson has proved his mother and I pray she's not dead.
You can picture their resemblance from his feet up to his head."

Oh, the jurymen found him guilty and the clerk wrote it down.
The judge he passed the sentence. Penitentiary he was bound.
He was brought for safe keeping to dear old New Orleans.
There he appealed for a new trial for the Court of Supreme.

He said, "I know God wouldn't have me punished for a crime that I didn't do.
I hope and trust each and everyone someday find out that I'm true.
Prosperity for New Orleans and also justice in the land
Oh, I am glad to tell you that Walter is now a free man.

Bob Dylan is also a good one for writing songs from the news headlines.
