Allan Jones had (maybe still does) a monthly feature in Uncut called Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before, in which he regaled his readers with indiscreet tales of his bacchanalian life as a rock journalist, and lurid accounts of his brushes with celebrity artists. Always struck me as a bit of an overly-keen-to-impress blabbermouth.

I have it on good authority from my insider secret sources that there is a proper rumor that Bob's albums are talked about more before they are released than after.

That's just reverential silence, of course.

Have fun at Hop. Wonder if we'll be hearing from Jonesy by then or is he out of it now?

We'll see.

As Ms Parker said, they'll probably still let him/UNCUT review the disc because they know he'll give it a five-star review.

TTL got 5 out of 5 in Uncut. Listened to it again today in fact. First time in a while and very enjoyable. I'd give it 3.5 stars usually but today it felt like a 4...

It's funny and I'm sure that in the magazine this was a clear 5 out of 5 but if you look at the archived review, this is what you will see:

Quote:
More scholarly types than myself are already hovering over Together Through Life, no doubt to tell us from which obscure blues or classical source Dylan has imported lyrics (“Beyond Here Lies Nothing” is apparently a quote from Ovid, a very funny couplet in “My Wife’s Hometown” is evidently derived from Chaucer). I’ll cheerfully leave them to it, turn the record up real loud and shake this mama one more time.

ALLAN JONES

Rating: 5 / 10

should you see Mr Jones hit him for some updates. things are not going so good on the info front.

was listening to TTL last night its full of brilliant counter riffs well deserving of that stellar review.

Uncut changed their rating system (and format) recently to expand reviews to be marks out of 10 rather than 5.

Probably a glitch of the retrofit, albeit one that more accurately states the correct rating.

It's a minor album in the grand scheme of Bob's work and yet it does have plenty of appeal. Closer to L&T than MT in feel and style. Not as strong as L&T and yet I usually enjoy them equally. Good to hear George giving it welly after the quiet brush work of MT.

They probably changed it so they could give Bob 10 out of 10.

all bob records deserve at the very least, the max amount of stars available to him. thats the nature of bobs material. they should have special ratings for bob records, 10 to 15 that are reserved for bob only.

im neither sad nor sorry
im all dressed up in black
i fought for fame and glory
they tried to break my back

that Cant Escape from You is a perfect example of bob greatness. not only is it a 15 star diamond, its addictive, theres no way i can listen to it once without listening to it at least 15 times in a row. the whole world is a stage for bob and his music.

Last time I checked, that song was utter drek - a real shart of an effort, the equivalent of a worm-ridden dog doing donuts on its arse.

I'm guessing you smoke way too much pot. Either that or just dont have very good taste in music. Maybe both.

Are you Warren Peace?

Um, what's with the Mark Lanegan hate? Seems a bit odd and misplaced...

goombay, just for clarification, are you a still-employed record producer? I do seem to remember you don't like The Beatles, an excellent life choice which places you in the suitable company of our very own national treasure: scowling, sneery-lipped, rock n' roll rebel rouser, Dame Cliff Richard. If you've never heard of him, you've not missed a thing.
