Dear Dylan fan guitarists,

I have been playing the guitar for all my life, but I only got into soloing relatively recently (last 2-3 years). I know my theory relatively well, and I am fairly competent as a soloist, but not 'good'.
I do not like copying other people's solos, but there is one exception: Robbie's solo on Blowing in the wind from Before the Flood. I have pretty much worked out the double stops, but the licks and the nuances completely escape me. Has anyone worked it out or have a tab of it?

This solo is my albatross... I have loved it for years but never conquered it. Any ideas, suggestions, hints, would be EXTREMELY appreciated! Thanks in advance!

PS I considered posting this in the off-topic forum, but the content is Dylan related. If I am wrong, feel free to move the thread. No offence will be taken! :-)

Try the Amazing Slow Downer - or if you are on a budget, Audacity - to find out what is going on in that solo.

..Play the notes, double stops etc. with your eyes and fingers
- Play the nuances with your heart and soul - 'licks' will be the
natural result/consequence - you don't want THOSE things to
be Robbie's anyway, do you? .. Don't you want your solo to
be an obvious tip-o'-the-Hat to Robbie, but an expression
of your own? That's the difference between imitation and
paying a 'Respect' - you don't honor an Artist w/ a paint
by number picture, you do it with 'Style'. .... 8)

Yep... I tried Dylanchords. It just gives the chords... no tab.

Indeed, right now I have slowed it down using Audacity (nice option to change the tempo without changing the pitch). I haven't had a go at it yet, but I'm sure it's a matter of time now.

In this case, I actually want to fully (or as closely as possible) copy the solo. I have the feeling that a lot of elements in it will be great training for me. Obviously, I can improvise a solo over the chords that has elements of Robbie's solo (e.g. double stops) but it's the things that elude me that I believe will push me to the next level. In other words, it's not for performance purposes, it's merely 'exploratory training'. :-)

Thanks for your suggestions guys! I really appreciate it! It's going to be a loooong weekend! ;-)
