Back in the early days of Bob Dylan on the internet, before the pools, when most of the Bob discussion took place on the newsgroup RMD, there were many web sites devoted to different aspects of Bob. Bill Parr's site was the Slow Train Coming Page which of course was devoted to the gospel aspects of Bob, and was the first site on that side of Dylan's music. Bill was a frequent contributor to RMD, always a reasonable presence even when the topics got heated and contentious. He was always up for a trade or would just send you stuff, a truly helpful guy.

For the past several years, Bill had been living and teaching in China. Last year, a few weeks before Bob played there Bill suffered a stroke. He recovered enough that his son who flew to China to help him hoped to take him see Bob, but he suffered a relapse, and was eventually brought home. Early today, Bill passed away in his sleep. Bill was a true and generous Bob fan. I will miss him.

Thanks for writing this, Peter. Your words describe Bill so well.

Yes, Bill Parr was a friend to many within the worldwide Dylan community and beyond. He was a good fan, a good friend, and a good person in every sense of the word. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear it. I never had any dealings with Mr. Parr, but I remember him from the good ol' r.m.d. days.
