Just thought Danny Lanois adds to the mood of the album superbly. Bob Dylan's health was not too good 'round this time and Lanois' style hits Dylan's unsettledness and health uncertainty very very well. This album was a lot about Bob's vision of his own mortality, 'eh. He and Lanois nailed it. What a great listen.

Lanois added some weirdness which fits well with the material. I think he was after a mono sound even in stereo and it's a very interesting job. I've enjoyed several of the live rearrangements but that doesn't diminish my appreciation of his production on TooM.

I can't believe there are 20 people out there who voted that TOOM is great because of Lanois . Lanois work is interesting but great because of him ???

Time Out Of Mind is essentially unlistenable to me because of Lanois, which is a shame because the songs themselves are incredible but the production sucks all of the life out of them. When I wish to listen to the songs I will only listen to live performances. Time Out Of Mind had the opportunity to be one of his greatest achievements, but because of the production, I place it at the bottom of all of his most recent works starting with GAIBTY.

There isn't a song on TOOM that I'd listen to just on the basis of the Lanois production, but some of the thinner songs on the album probably gain from it, at least to get you through to the better ones, if you can't / won't find the skip button. A bit Like drowning bland food in some kind of heady sauce.
