I remember reading somewhere that BD used the Heart of Mine track on Shot of Love because of the fact that Ringo played on it, but that he preferred the 'other' take. I think BOTH versions of Can't Wait from TTSigns are vastly superior to Time Out Of Mind's Can't Wait. Another mistake IMO, is the version of Nothing Was Delivered that's on Basement Tapes. The alternate with drums is so much better.

The outtake of Can't Wait in Bb is a million times better, yes. Most of the Time and Born In Time, too. Actually a whole bunch of the outtakes from Oh Mercy taken from the bootleg Deeds of Mercy are better.

Someone's Got A Hold Of My Heart is much better than the rewrite "Tight" from EB too. And to go even deeper, I think the second "Someone" is better than the one on BS3 as is the "Tell Me" too!!

The alternate If Not For You with strings is preferable. Of course, if that had been the released one perhaps I'd say the same about the stripped down version. Also, the acoustic Mississippi alternate from BS8 is my favorite Dylan recording, period, so I'd say that I like that more than the official release.

Shelter from the storm comes to mind. I think the one recorded later in Minneapolis is much better.

Let's say there's nothing I would not have wanted to hear.

someday baby. MT version sounds like everything else on the album. The TTS version has soul.

I've always much preferred the solo piano She's Your Lover Now and the electric Blind Willie McTell.
And the original Blood on the Tracks tracks (except for Lily).
And the original slow Visions of Johanna.
And the original Hurricane with Emmy Lou.
And some more I can't be bothered to think of just now.
And it's bad grammar to begin a sentence with the word 'And'.

the acoustic Corrina, Corrina and Idiot Wind. And I agree with above about Born In Time. I like the Oh Mercy outtake so much more than the rewrite with Crosby on backing vocals from UTRS.

Weren't the drums on 'Nothing Was Delivered' added later? I'm not sure, I'm just asking.

Oh, not sure...I heard before Levon Helm arrived, that R. Manuel or R. Robbertson would sometimes drum. Plus, it's from A Tree With Roots and not the official Basement Tapes with overdubbs...but who knows?

New Danville Girl instead of Brownsville Girl - both are very underrated.

I've been led to believe the only version of Shelter From The Storm to be on Blood on the Tracks was the original one he recorded in New York on September 17th 1974.

September 18, according to Heylin. The album take.

Yes, this! ^^ I found the album version to be flat, uninspired, and uninspiring. When I finally heard the BS version, I immediately believed that I was hearing a "new, lost masterpiece." Sometime later, I realized that I actually already had that song--on an album which I'd played only once, a long, long time ago. Incredible that both versions were recorded within a very few days of each other.

He had such a good amount of great material, from "Someone's Got a Hold of My Heart" to the earlier take of "When the Night Comes Falling from the Sky" but he just ended up ruining it. In a way I'm glad "Empire Burlesque" turned out this decent, but "The Naked Empire" just gives a glimpse of the potential... also has "New Danville Girl" and all. "I'll Remember You" sounds so much more intimate. The overdubbing and re-recording just destroyed what could have been an excellent album.

Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again the out take on No Direction Home is very good, the Blonde on Blonde version and this are both the same, If the lyrics were finished on this take, then I probably prefer it.
