I've recently become re-enthralled with this song...
But what I'm most interested right now, is a variations on a theme approach.

Can you folks recommend favorite cover versions?

I think what I'd like to hear mostly are interesting poppy/piano based versions. It seems that most of the versions on Youtube opt for the tired old dude-with-guitar approach.

Although, Marriane Faithful has a nice version... any others out there, I should check out?

I don't really like listening to cover versions of Dylan songs, although Jimi Hendrix did some great ones, but this version of Visions of Johanna is my absolute favourite version of all;

Although it's not piano based, I think Lee Ranaldo's version is all you ever need to hear outside of the various Dylan takes.

The Grateful Dead did a nice one and so did Chris Smither, but they're all guitar based.

This is one of my favorite as well, she doesn't really do covers anymore.

Lee Renaldo's cover isn't bad.

And here's a cover by some group called The Quinaimes Band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zq8LhAeP770

Hm. I am intrigued at this prospect. If I can't find such a version, I may just have to record one myself.

I'll admit that I listen to a lot of Pop. But I really like Arthouse Pop, Tori Amos, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, John Cale, MagFields...

I think my favorite thing ever would be Kate Bush doing covers of Dylan/Cohen music.

EDIT: Thank you for all of the suggestions. :)

I would love to hear Kate Bush cover some John Wesley Harding - era stuff. She could add some histrionics and stretch out the verses a bit. Maybe she should just do the whole album.

This is the poppiest version I know:

Belle and Sebastien would reject that on grounds of being too twee...

Here you go. Not sure how long it can stay on soundcloud because of copyrights, but hopefully the interested parties will get to listen. It's definitely a lower quality recording, as my good microphone was stolen awhile back, so I'm just using the computer mic. Also, I didn't put in the last verse because it's not really very "poppy," is it?

Wow this is really sweet. Though I'm not sure that I agree that the last verse is incompatible with a poppy sound.
Thank you!

Nice job; definitely a different version--like how you sung it.

Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoy playing Dylan's music, and I try to do it ways that are fun and interesting to me.
