I know of John Hume only through his fine photographic work, but just wanted to add my respects and condolences.

It's warming to see the outpouring of affection for him on here from friends and colleagues, both old and new, and a great testament to how something like music really can bring people together from all over the world.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Hume.

I can only echo what others have said - John was such a really nice guy.

My thoughts go out to his family & friends, it's so sad. RIP

I can't believe it! How sad...
We had a "funny" sandwich together at Bayonne after the show.
When I realized that he is the author of such great Bob photos, I said to my friend: "I need to thank him"
"Thank you John".
As I said to Michele:
"He had gone in ecstasy I'm sure.
Lets face it whith some joy.
One life needs to pass away, because another kind of existence needs to come.
love".

I'm thinking about Valeria and her pain... :(

swapped tapes with john many times in the mid 80s, when little cassettes was all we had and he never let me down, did that for a number of years until these digital cds came into play
later got to know him at shows and we had a few beers and exchanged tall tales and petty dylan stories. I covered a few times while he took pics and also held his camera once while he explained to security that he didnt have a camera
Spoke to him at lyon this year and we both agreed that more shows like that was gonna be a good thing
We exchanged a thumbs up across the crowd in beyonne and i saw him later in the show 'negotiating' with baron about his right to take photos, i always think he enjoyed that drama. I missed him as we all walked out of that bull ring
All the best John and thoughts for all those that you leave behind

I'm devastated, Steinar.
I met John in Bayonne, nothing could make us think that was the last time ...his last concert!
I will miss him.
R.I.P. friend!

I am shocked, shattered to hear this news ... my heartfelt sympathy to John's mum - a woman who has had her fair share of sadness and bereavement. Awful news.

Does anyone know his favorite song and has the technical knowledge of creating a slideshow video using his photos? Something we could do as a tribute.... some of his photos are linked here.

He told me he loved Caribbean Wind - not sure if that's his favorite, though.

What a sad news . In 1986 I had the honor to meet and sit next to him in New York, Philadelphia and East Rutherford. John surely was one of the best Dylan - photographers.
RIP .

I don't visit this site as much as I used to, but I just popped in tonight
and it's very sad to see the news about John.

I met John in Lorca and Jaen about 4 years ago, we hung out for a bit
and went to a couple of shows. It was good to meet a fellow Irishman out
there and he was a good guy, great company and I enjoyed the craic with him and Knut.
I was impressed with the lengths he went to in order to get his photo's,
he was really devoted to it. He spoke with great passion and enthusiasm
about Bob's music and seemed to love being on the road.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

It had to be a funny feeling to really work for a good shot and then
get one of those pics where Bob looks right at the camera and gives that glare he is so good at..... but I am sure glad he did get those shots....

It's sad, but great that John had so much pleasure following Bob for so long while giving us some great pictures. Always admired his tenacity and risk-taking to get such shots. R.I.P. John.
