The rat that took the guitar better have a good excuse or it better be a fake. I'm unanimous on that! :x

They forgot to mention that Dylan says it is NOT the right guitar....

and just how hard to they really thing it would be to track down that company name.... I think it shows up on various films with Dylan in them or that are about Dylan....

.... and as to the lyrics..... very simple.....if they think they are real..... then give 'em back.... :x

I did notice at no point did they try to claim that he has in any way shape or form given up ownership to the whole thing..... Oh, yeah, they tried to contact them.... yet the only document contact was a letter from management that says.... "no, we do not give up ownership".....

You aren't entitled to it!! Notice she said "I was told my dad contacted them and no one picked it up." Who told her? It just seems like she is trying to cover herself by saying "we tried to give it back" but there is no way of knowing that.

Maybe his children would love to have it :?:

I would be surprised if there was anything public about this.... but I sure don't expect him to just walk away...... I also don't think it will ever make it to market..... I would think the lawyers are already on the move....
One of the articles has already said that he has the original, but that doesn't mean that one doesn't belong to him too.....

Maybe he doesn't really care about it as much as we do. Who knows. They should do the right thing, though.

I bet he cares about the lyrics, though. His team has stopped lyric sales before.

I didn't know that, but I can understand that could feel much more personal and exploitive than theft of an object.

I think both items are real (unfortunately). So, what is this girl gonna do with them (as if I didn't know)?

This is wrong. I hope he gets it back and it stays in his family or he leaves it to the Smithsonian.

I'm very annoyed.

It might be a pain that she doesn't do the right thing and give them back without a battle, but do you really think she has the horses to take his team of lawyers on...... no way!!!!!

Sounds like the Dylan "team" had a chance to reclaim the guitar and did not. Either they (and Bob) don't really care about it. Bob says he has the original and this may be another guitar that was "taken" or lost at a later date.

It didn't sound very convincing to me that they persued it's return to the rightful owner.

A very interesting show!

I’d love to get a chance to view copies of those lyric sheets. They look so similar to the ones offered by Margolis & Moss that Graham Nash purchased quite a few years ago.

I agree with BABF, the show convinced me that the guitar in question matched the one in the photo from the performance. I wonder if there weren’t a few Strats purchased “off the shelf” from Manny’s Music. Perhaps more than one guitar was off-stage, pre-tuned in case of a technical problem. Maybe that would explain why Bob still has one "from the performance". It also seems conceivable that a lost guitar(s) could be reported as stolen for insurance purposes.

The final outcome will be fascinating, as are all things Dylan. I also hope it eventually makes it to the Smithsonian or the R&RHoF so we can all see it.

Lyrics here:

and another thing, if it was reported lost/stolen to the insurance company, and they paid the claim, they effectively
now own it.

I liked this show. And apparently it really is one of the guitars used at the Newport show. At least the guy with the photos and the "fingerprint" of the wood sounded pretty convincing to me.
I would like to know more about these lyric sheets. Which songs did they finally turn into? And apparently Dylan was already working on songs that would end up almost a year later on Blonde on Blonde. Until now I only knew that Dylan wrote lyrics for that album in the studio, right before recording. Fascinating!

As far as who owns the guitar, I don't really care. The layers will make sure that it will be returned to Bob. But I think this woman should at least get some reward for keeping the instrument in good shape for all these decades. and it wasn't like her dad stole it, Bob and his people were just careless.

Couple Says Bob Dylan's Stratocaster Is Theirs

http://www.courthousenews.com/2012/08/01/48893.htm

I find it very hard to believe they contacted Bob and his people several times to tell them they had his guitars AND lyrics and no one bothered to pick them up. There is no way to verify that. Also, is there a reason why they keep referring to him and Mr. Zimmerman? His legal name is Bob Dylan, correct?

His name has been Dylan since 62 or 63. The hub bub surrounding this performance was immediate. I'd think he'd have retrieved it if someone said he left it behind. I still think these people are FOS.

It doesn't belong to them.
