Found this on rec.music.dylan:

THUNDER ON THE MOUNTAIN

Thunder on the mountain, fires on the moon
There's a ruckus in the alley and the sun will be here soon
Today's the day, gonna grab my trombone and blow
Well, there's hot stuff here and it's everywhere I go
I was thinkin' 'bout Alicia Keys, couldn't keep from crying
When she was born in Hell's Kitchen, I was living down the line
I'm wondering where in the world Alicia Keys could be
I been looking for her even clear through Tennessee
Feel like my soul is beginning to expand
Look into my heart and you will sort of understand
You brought me here, now you're trying to run me away
The writing's on the wall, come read it, come see what it say

Thunder on the mountain, rolling like a drum
Gonna sleep over there, that's where the music coming from
I don't need any guide, I already know the way
Remember this, I'm your servant both night and day
The pistols are poppin' and the power is down
I'd like to try somethin' but I'm so far from town
The sun keeps shinin' and the North Wind keeps picking up speed
Gonna forget about myself for a while, gonna go out and see what others need
I've been sitting down studying the art of love
I think it will fit me like a glove
I want some real good woman to do just what I say
Everybody got to wonder what's the matter with this cruel world today

Thunder on the mountain rolling to the ground
Gonna get up in the morning walk the hard road down
Some sweet day I'll stand beside my king
I wouldn't betray your love or any other thing
Gonna raise me an army, some tough sons of bitches
I'll recruit my army from the orphanages
I been to St. Herman's church and I've said my religious vows
I've sucked the milk out of a thousand cows
I got the porkchops, she got the pie
She ain't no angel and neither am I
Shame on your greed, shame on your wicked schemes
I'll say this, I don't give a damn about your dreams

Thunder on the mountain heavy as can be
Mean old twister bearing down on me
All the ladies of Washington scrambling to get out of town
Looks like something bad gonna happen, better roll your airplane down
Everybody's going and I want to go too
Don't wanna take a chance with somebody new
I did all I could and I did it right there and then
I've already confessed - no need to confess again
Gonna make a lot of money, gonna go up north
I'll plant and I'll harvest what the earth brings forth
The hammer's on the table, the pitchfork's on the shelf
For the love of God, you ought to take pity on yourself

And they just keep on coming:
SPIRIT ON THE WATER

Spirit on the water

Darkness on the face of the deep

I keep thinking about you baby

I can't hardly sleep

I'm traveling by land

Traveling through the dawn of day

You're always on my mind

I can't stay away

I'd forgotten about you

Then you turned up again

I always knew

That we were meant to be more than friends

When you are near

It's just as plain as it can be

I'm wild about you, gal

You ought to be a fool about me

Can't explain

The sources of this hidden pain

You burned your way into my heart

You got the key to my brain

I've been trampling through mud

Praying to the powers above

I'm sweating blood

You got a face that begs for love

Life without you

Doesn't mean a thing to me

If I can't have you

I'll throw my love into the deep blue sea

Sometimes I wonder

Why you can't treat me right

You do good all day

Then you do wrong all night

When you're with me

I'm a thousand times happier than I could ever say

What does it matter

What price I pay

They're braggin'about your sugar

Brag about it all over town

Put some sugar in my bowl

I feel like laying down

I'm pale as a ghost

Holding a blossom on a stem

You ever seen a ghost? No

But you've heard of them

I see you there

I'm blinded by the colors I see

I take good care

Of what belongs to me

I hear your name

Ringing up and down the line

I'm saying it plain

These ties are strong enough to bind

Now your sweet voice

Calls out from some old familiar shrine

I got no choice

Can't believe these things would ever fade from your mind

I could live forever

With you perfectly

You don't ever

Have to make a fuss over me

From East to West

Ever since the world began

I only mean it for the best

I want to be with you any way I can

I been in a brawl

Now I'm feeling the wall

I'm going away baby

I won't be back 'til fall

High on the hill

You can carry all my thoughts with you

You've numbed my will

This love could tear me in two

I wanna be with you in paradise

And it seems so unfair

I can't go back to paradise no more

I killed a man back there

You think I'm over the hill

You think I'm past my prime

Let me see what you got

We can have a whoppin' good time

Thanks for posting this New Alias. Wow, he seems to be over the moon over this Alicia. Wonder how much time she "invested" and how dare she refuse him, although I suspect things are not always as simple with ol' Bob, as they appear.

Strange line. What do you girls at ER have to say about that line. Is Bob a chauvinist, or is it maybe a sexual thing.

Bob is well known for his, shall we say, 'traditional' views of women.

On a first read, these lyrics don't seem to be vintage Dylan. Workingman's Blues sounded nearer the mark.

Wow there's a lot of biblical language in there. That's kind of interesting. Not that he hasn't done it before, but this seems a little bit different.

Spirit On The Water is very mediocre and so is TOTM to some degree.I'm a little dissapointed.

I hate reading lyrics like that.. it makes my eyeballs hurt. With Bob there's as much going on in the delivery as there is in the lyrics. That's one reason why Dylan covers are nice but they never really work, IMO.

Do we know for sure if these are the REAL lyrics? I know the first verses are.Considering these are tracks 1 and 2 they seem pretty weak lyrically.

I think the part where he "Damn's someones dreams" is real becaue that's been cited in some review before.

We do not know for sure if these lyrics are real. It was posted by a Dutch guy at rec.music.dylan. Of course he could have scraped together excerpts from the clips and reviews, and filled in the spaces himself. He wouldn’t tell where he got it.

Assuming they are the right ones I too was a bit disappointed. But the music and delivery is an important part of the experience, and all together it was enough to impress Mojo and Uncut. They also look better broken into four line verses: http://expectingrain.com/dok/cd/2006/mo ... rics.shtml

Aw, Bob, I suspect, like some of us as well, is sometimes sensually attracted to one sort of person and romantically/intellectually to another.

I imagine a lot also depends on whether he's been drinking or not, or whatever other substance is involved, when he gets into various situations.

I've been a responsible individual for most of my life, but also tripped the light fantastic since 1966 in my "free time". Now I'm sober, not out of righteousness and not only for health reasons ....but because it simply is no longer enjoyable. Anyway, sobriety changes one's outlook somewhat.

The other thing is that once you reach a certain vintage, a person's priorities change....although considering Bob's reputed shenanigans with Miz "K"....I guess he's STILL not ready to call it a day.

He's a fortunate man though, I'm sure he's got women stacked on the shelf waiting around for years for what they wanted.

Besides all that, a lot of men say one thing and mean another...and often they lose interest once they get what they went after! Go figure. We love 'em just the same.

"An' she says, "Your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again."

I took a listen to the song ... it's alright, a nice album opener I'd say.

Thunder on the Mountain has the line:

"I've been sitting down studying the art of love"

Wonder if he's referring to "The Art of Love" by Ovid (a rather
long, boring study guide, which I didn't read all of, can be found at:

http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/love-in-the-arts/ovid.html

...it does mention the "North Wind" (Boreas)

OR, was he referring to "The Art of Love" derivative from the Kama Sutra, a comprehensive description of love-making techniques from the Orient?

If that's the case -- oh my Mr. Bob -- that's all a bit heavy duty, overwhelming and intimidating.

I wish you tenderness and a gentle, cheerful, mellow day...

"Our House

I'll light the fire
You place the flowers in the vase that you bought today.
Staring at the fire for hours and hours
While I listen to you play your love songs all night long for me,
Only for me.
Come to me now
And rest your head for just five minutes
Everything is done
Such a cozy room
The windows are illuminated by the evening sunshine through them
Fiery gems for you.
Only for you.
Our house is a very very very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy, 'cause of you
I'll light the fire
While you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today."

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Love the "Thunder" lyrics more than most TOOM lyrics, and I can't read "Spirit" because I've not yet heard it. I think what is quite possibly the best about this is the almost throwaway-ness of some of the song. It's very casual, I can dig it.

I laugh every time I hear these lines... great stuff!
