Apologies to my hardened followers for the lack of decent photographs, I'm still keeping a low profile around the gigs with the camera until we all get to know each other more, especially in light of the BD camera policy. In actual fact, the sight of the camera strap over my shoulder could easily have explained Bob's unwillingness to smile earlier. Fair play.
Haha

cool that he seems to write an entry every single day of the tour, and that he even answers the questions of his fans in the "forum" corner of his website!

even though he didn't recognise BTH during bob's soundcheck, it will be the only "closer" look at the whole tour operations you will get, the guy is a dream (no pun intended) and he keeps answering the most ridiculous questions from fans (mainly about Dire Straits, and Dire Straits and Dire Straits, and the others about arranging a meet and greet with Mark and shit)
i do not know many "professional" musicians of his stature (being the right hand of an artist that's sold 150 milion records is no longer small time i think) that are in such close contact to the fans.
Admit it, all of you, every single one of you would go on a year long freak out trip if Tony G. would decide (and be allowed to) to run a similar thing, right?

that´s exactly what i mean, and i even think the 'Red sails In The Sunset' thing is a kind of joke ;)

Haha! You can't blame him, after all the melody IS Red Sails - only the lyric is different! The same can be said about Rollin' and Tumblin'!

Excellent videos on Guy's site. Check out ones like Up In The Air. Didn't realize how much goes into putting on these shows -

It's nothing to do with the folk process! Red Sails in the Sunset melody was written in 1935 by a chap called Hugh Williams, not Bob Dylan and so Hugh Williams should have been credited as the writer of the music on "Modern Times"!

Not on the album liner notes! Just all songs by Bob Dylan! Have a look!

I know what it says on the album. It's obviously completely legal though.

Well to the casual record buyer, it is not obvious - it looks as though Bob composed everything and he patently didn't!

The average record buyer couldn't care less.

I could - I am always interested in who wrote what! It is dishonest not to be open about these things, especially on a liner note! Regarding Modern Times it seems that BD wrote everything on the album, lyrics and music - not so!!!

You're always gonna have a variety of sources with Bob. It was like that from day one.

Pretty soon, it's back on the bus and off to the venue and in very heavy rush-hour Nottingham traffic this takes a while. We finally get there to find another generic ice arena. Bob's band are onstage, obviously working up some new arrangements, we hear what sounds distinctly like 'Red sails In The Sunset'.

Must have been Beyond The Horizon they were soundchecking.

In my time 'hanging around' behind the stage waiting for our turn to s'check, BD walks by. I catch his eye and offer a smile.... which isn't returned. It would be wrong of me to judge anyone over such an insignificant moment...I look forward to possibly being introduced one day. I guess that in his lifetime, he's met enough people and has decided that he doesn't want to meet any more, either that or he's just plain shy. Yes, that must be it. I have to say though, Bob's band are a delight, Richard and I were chatting with Donny Herron, Bob's Steel player, talking guitars and things.

Apologies to my hardened followers for the lack of decent photographs, I'm still keeping a low profile around the gigs with the camera until we all get to know each other more, especially in light of the BD camera policy. I don't care much for Guys forum answers (he is disposed to dismissing non-English speaking folk to stupid answers if they dare to ask about the old music), but his diary and photos are a treat, especially from the guitar geek point of view.

All this just makes me very sure MK band won't be invited back for another tour.

why? the diary?
fact is, bob asked, and if it was not to fill extra seats, as some say, what was his motive? i assume coz he admires mark for what he is, a great guitar player, as Mark totally admires Bob, as a genius song writer.

Huh? all of what? If you mean fan-boy whining and complaining on the forums, I doubt anyone in the bands cares about that.
Bob wanted Knopfler to tour with him and nothing indicates Bob is in anyway unhappy.

It may well be the only tour together as Bob rarely pairs with the same opener on a subsequent tour (correct?), and Knopfler will be busy touring on his own with a new album out next year, and um...Bob is 70.

some people are pretty hard on guy. hes just doing what hes done from HIS day one.. and that is to keep a little ramble on about whatever theyve been doing..i think its fun and a nice way for him to keep in touch with those that follow them around. why are some dylan people so offended i just dont get that. i think hes learned that cameras are really offensive to bob and hes not goin to rock that boat. i enjoy his pictures and as a foreigner to england and europe, i love to hear the travel stories and hope he continues on with them.

I wasn't talking about anybody's whining at all, I was talking about someone going around backstage doing things that by all indications doesn't comply with Bob's quest for secrecy. Like posting photos and tales of encounters.

And yes, Bob has toured with the same opener twice and more (think Willie Nelson).

And no, I don't think Bob has invited MK because he personally likes him so much. It's a business deal.

I knew lots of people in college who watched soap operas, I thought they were stupid and a waste of time. I feel like this tour is getting sucked into a soap opera mode in some threads.

I'm going to stay in the music related threads from now on, see ya!

I can't remember another tour with this kind of bizarre sniping between fans of both acts. It's not much different on the Mark-oriented page. It's to be expected that they like (generally) Mark better and at ER we (generally) like Dylan better - I would be shocked if it were different, so why are people so up in arms about it?

At any rate, I cannot IMAGINE Dylan being happy about his reaction (or lack of one) while walking past a complete stranger backstage at his own concert being posted on the internet. But I'm sure Guy meant no harm.

That's what I'm saying. It's different if one of us on ER posts their unsmiling Bob experience than when a professional in the opening band does so.

We're all brothers in arms. Mark told them 10000 times.
(I don't want hear comments that I didn't understand the lyrics but i start to realize that the MK folks don't get jokes or are fun people. They seem depressive. Perhaps it has to do with the hours listening to boring guitar noodeling, although he is a very good guitar player. )

whatever. there have been plenty of quotes in the press from other supporting artists about Dylan's lack of interaction with them. Some of those acts have been invited back on the tour later, some haven't.
