Maybe they have to let the baby sitter go early...

Honestly, if Dylan were playing first I might well leave early too. I've done it before and suffered no ill effects (Dylan/Lesh summer tour '00)

Most likely  . Well , the ones who are actually leaving are people who aren't familiar to Bob's music , for example mark knopfler's fans. My guess is they are taken aback by Bob's ragged voice and the new counrty-blues arrangements. Bob doesn't act like they think he would , you know , like the poet laureate of rock'n'roll . They're idiots babe!

I think if I had tickets for maybe four shows in a week and it was the other way around and MK was playing after Bob... I'd stay and listen to MK, but I'd really have to drink a lot of wine to get through those MK sets. He wasn't very interesting to watch for me, he kind of seemed bored with his own music. I don't know many of his songs though, I admit. Bob Dylan and his band seemed a breath of fresh air after the MK sets I saw. MK twice in one week was enough for me.

I have to agree. Whilst I really enjoyed MK's set at Cardiff, the thought of standing through it for a second night in Bournemouth put me off a last minute chance of a ticket for Bournemouth. There is something fascinating about seeing Bob no matter how he sings/performs which MK or any other artist can never capture.

Nope, wrong again. How is someone an idiot just because they don't like what they're hearing/seeing? Please explain.

maybe it's because they were told that he doesn't do encore break.

Which is why it would make sense to have encores ... AND Knopfler joining in for these every night instead of the opening 3-4 songs....

I guess, if the goal is making people sit through a set that they are not interested in...

Let's see here. I've seen Dylan as much as I can since 2004. I started leaving at the "encore" around 2006. Haven't looked back since. Also haven't missed a damn thing.

A crime against music IMO. What would Hank Williams the third say?

I've walked out of Knopfler twice so far, doesn't mean he's shite. Just didn't come to see him.
People walked away from the Hop Farm performance and complained - it was one if the greatest performances I've ever seen.

As much as I hate the current Like A Rolling Stone and wish he'd given it up a long time ago, I just can't leave while Bob Dylan is on the stage in front of me. I just can't.

I guess Dylan knows from experience that it's no fun to open the show, then sit on your hands for 90 minutes and then go out again. The Simon duets came in the middle of the show as well and it's kind of a smiliar concept now.

Unhappy with the performance? Especially the vocals?

Yes, that is the most obvious reason. But the bigger crime is that they are boring.

Dylan's shite used to at least capture the attention even when it was utter, utter shite. Now it's just the same shite every night, and makes heading for the car park in the rain interesting in comparison.

Doing anything in the rain is not only interesting, it's romantic.

As far as skipping out on Bob, my guess is they all had tickets to the opera.

I wouldn't have thought that people walking out of a concert could be a form of Rorschach test, but this thread proves it.

No Mr Peace, not as pseudo-intellectual as that. Just a question about whether people thing that some are leaving the shows early cos they aren't very good. His voice is shocking now.

Interesting how the crowd's attitude lines up perfectly with your own. If you need that kind of validation to feel secure in your opinions, well, rock on. I vaguely want people to have a good time. But does that really matter to me? No. What an arena full of strangers is experiencing doesn't really change things.
