Some of my favorite moments of live shows are the rare, but usually interesting interjections by Bob. Here's one from Sydney, April 13, 1966. This comes in between "Thin Man" and "Positively 4th Street".

After the fourth or so time a guy shouts out for "Hard Rain"
Bob: Hard rain? I wish I saw some hard rain. Hard rain. Hard rain, feel no pain, I'll be coming back tomorrow again. Is that alright with you?

What are your favorites, humorous or otherwise?

I like the one, not sure if it's before or after "leopard skin pill-box hat" , or if it's that song at all, where he just mumbles on for a couple minutes incoherently and ends with "if you only wouldn't clap so hard" from the Live 66 Royal Albert hall album.

Another one, not banter, or even in between songs, but your thread made me think of it, one of my favorite Bob moments, during the Rolling Thunder Revue when he's doing "when i paint my masterpiece" with Bob Neuwirth, and Dylan decides to walk over to David Mansfield and tune his mandolin for him, mid song while he's still playing it  . Great stuff.

Before he kicks off Tom Thumb in Melbourne (1966) he blurs out a long stoned story about who Tom Thumb really is.
(For those not in the know, he’s actually a painter from Mexico.)
Just when he’s about to finish the story a girl in the audience lets out a really loud scream.
People start to laugh. Dylan goes quiet for a couple of seconds and then replies, with a voice as dry as a dessert,
“Ah, you know Tom Thumb…” :D

"ladies and gentlemen like to bring you on a friend of us all, Mr. Bob Dylan " ( my favorite and only G.H. between song banter).

 Yeah I remember that, I rewound it a few times in a row trying to decipher what he's saying, but like you I can't make out anything except "If You only wouldn't clap so hard"

I forget which show that was, but it was very funny.

Someone in the audience screams "Do a protest song!"
Bob replies "Yeah, here's one for ya"
Then plays Oh Sister (Live 75 Bootleg)

he was tryin to get the audience to settle down and knows that if he talked into the mic..more pple would try to hear what he was saying..and stop yapping. eventually, when he got everyones attention, he came out with that sentence *if you only wouldnt clap so hard*... thats a psychology trick. talk really loud in a small area..with about 20 people.. eventually everyone is shouting even if theres no need to. same thing in reverse. 8)

Earls Court '81 someone yells out "play an old song", Dylan responds "This one is old, hope you like it". And proceeds to play Barbara Allan.

This always cracks me up from Town Hall ’63:

“This one here…
I never, uh, use a list…
I, uh, I don’t much believe in lists…
But I know most of the guitar players do have them now…uh…
And, uh…
I wanted to get the best songs on my list…
You see I didn’t want to have none of these…
Songs..
(audience member shouts: “It’s a Hard Rain…!”)
Oh, wow…
I, uh…
Let me explain about my list first…
(laughter)
I just want to tell you about my list and I…
I swear I’ll get there…
Uh…
Anyway I went around and I copied down all the best songs I could find off everybody else’s list…
That’s why I’m in trouble because some of these songs I don’t know too well…
(laughter)
‘Hard Rain’ ain’t on my list…”

I got a folk song for you. I'm gonna play a folk song.

... It's called "Leopard-skin Pillbox Hat."

That was almost frighteningly stoned

"He's about 125 years old but he's still ghoinn"

How does he even remember the words?

I think he said in No Direction Home that he was simply burbling and making gibberish into the mic.

This show has wonderful banter.

Someone shouts out "Mary Had a Little Lamb!"
Bob - "Oh God, did I record that? ...is that a protest song?"

And the whole intro to I Don't Believe You. I just lose it when he messes up on guitar and groans, "oh, God."

“I usually play these things all to myself, but I feel like I'm all by myself now.” Introducing his cover-version of "The times we've known (Les bons moments)" by Charles Aznavour, New York 1998.

 Yes, that cracks me up every time, too.

I also like the introduction of "With God On Our Side" in Newport 1963.

Dylan: "...it tells a story if you ... if you like stories"
*he strumms a few chords, notices that a guitar string is out of tune and tries to fix it*
*he strumms again ... and there's the same problem ... so he tries to fix it again ...*
*and the same problem happens once again*
Dylan: "Well, maybe it doesn't tell a story."

The above occurs in the last minute or so of this track, for anyone who hasn't heard it...
