Expecting Rain

Let's start right here.... there's that rumor about a double header tour with Tom Petty next year - now Tom's coming to Europe for his first major concert in 20 years, headlining Friday night at the Isle of Wight festival in June. "Exciting" headliner for Saturday to be announced.

Sounds like a possibility, especially if the TP camp considers the third headliner to be "very exciting", but...

... wouldn't Dylan, Petty and Springsteen at the same festival be a bit redundant?
... wouldn't Dylan and Petty play the same day if they were to tour together (unless IOW would be the first date)
... wasn't the Dylan/Petty rumour about a US tour, where Petty has a much higher profile than in Europe?

The rumor was unspecified in terms of location(s), it was just said to be quite long (78 dates ), so it could be US & Europe.

oh, okay. 78 dates would fit in with the rumours that there's nothing planned for the first half of the year. 40 shows in Europe in the summer, 40 more in the US in the fall. All with Petty, year filled.

Must be something planned if there is nothing planned. Hadn't heard that rumor, but it opens up lots of possibilities. Album, film, throat surgery, you name it....

78 dates, US and Europe, Petty's first European tour in 20 years and they're NOT doing shows in the UK apart from possibly the Isle of Wight (based on what you said in some other thread)??? Why would they do that to us UK folk?

Bob played ten UK shows this year.... ten shows in Germany, too.... and usually if he tours some places a lot one year, he'll go other places the next time. That's all, I guess.

True, though Petty hasn't. I just can't see why he would miss out on the market here: if he is going to draw crowds anywhere in Europe, it'll be the UK.

For me the fact that Petty will be in Europe in summer rather confirms that he won't tour with Dylan.
If the festival appearence isn't the only European gig ( wouldn't make all too much sense just to come over for one festival ) Petty will most likely tour the mayor markets and obviously it'd be pointless to take Bob along cos he's just been to all those places.
Let's face it, if there will be a European leg at all next year, it's gonna be in fall.
Also, as Auto said before, a festival hosting Petty, Dylan and Springsteen at the same time is more than unlikely !

While Bob returning to the festival would be an exciting plot line, I don't know how excited I would be to pay $250 dollars to see Bob and a bunch of acts I could care less about over 3 days.

I don't see any single day options on their site.

Major markets differ between summer and fall. Bob's not done much Southern or Eastern Europe this fall. Just sayin'.

Why would Petty avoid them ?!

There is so many other places Bob hasn't been in a while: First of all Central and South America, Canada and cities like NY, LA and Chicago.
Not that i wouldn't want them to return asap but it just doesn't make sense to me for many reasons.
It's other fan's turn to get some Bob first

There's lots of "first" before the summer, given that it's only December now. What I was saying is that major markets in the summer are festivals, and nothing would be stopping them from taking in one or two each in the UK and Germany on their way through. They wouldn't have to return to the arenas that Bob just recently played, there's plenty of other places to go, even in Europe. C'mon now, lemme dream....

December or not, they won't resume touring before (late) March. That means there's just enough time for ONE real tour before summer...

And yes, there's plenty of space in Europe but i'm not sure
whether Tom Petty will play in those beautiful villages in the Alps on his first visit to Europe in 20 years

And NO, don't dream...you'll only be disappointed !

I hope your wrong about TP I'm not become horny of this man ...To see MK one time was enough ... to see him to second time and the rest was a bit boring .... But Petty I hope not leave him at home Bob there are beter singers to tour with ... maybe he should go on tour with Tina Turner
