Just because they're written up as the holy trinity of 60s albums doesn't mean it's true. HWY61 and BOB have just as many "blues fillers" as MT and TTL.

i don't even dislike ModBob, man

it's just really difficult to underestimate the awesomeness and the huge cultural impact of those mid 60s records.

PBH is not boring, it's hilarious

They can be awesome (I disagree) and important (open to discussion) and still be overrated. Same with TTTAAC. An incredibly dry record.

I'm no man, btw.

man is gender neutral, the way that i use it... 8)

also you cannot seriously argue that the electric trilogy are not important in popular music. everybody from patti smith to george harrison to jimi hendrix would disagree with you!

Don't underestimate Bob's fun songs Jo. They're deeply melancholic , if you examine them closely.

So yea, he opened the way for other people to write nonsense lyrics who weren't even half as good at it as he was. Great, thanks, Bob....

@topu: We're not discussing taste here. The question was what's overrated, and there's nothing more overrated in Bob's career than these albums, except perhaps Self Portrait, which isn't as bad as people propagate it to be.

no but you see, overrated actually does involve taste.

you think those records are overrated because they have "nonsense lyrics" and basically aren't very good, but people go on neverendingly (and my, my do they go on) about how great they are.

whereas i think you couldn't say ENOUGH how fantastic Blonde on Blonde is, because I love it so much.

also i fire your "you don't get it" attitude that you told me about R and C right back at you..."nonsense lyrics"....nonsense! you're just not listening properly

That's irrelevant. The songs are still great . Can't you tell?

Blood on the tracks and Blonde on Blonde can never be overrated. When something is really good you get so much from it that it is not exagerated to describe it as holy

That would include a song like "not dark yet" for me also

Pretending to say something by sprouting chains of nothingness.... the thing is people have been told for so long how great these things are that they actually believe these songs are saying something. What I don't get is why you can't say that not all of his mid-60s stuff is equally great - it's not.
