Okay I might as well say it... I'm wondering what kind of underpants he wore through each decade....

back to the topic, are different brands of capos significant to how cool it looks or do they make the guitar sound different?

Boxers or briefs?

Seriously, here is some info on Bob's guitars, you might want to ask the guys who compiled it if they know the answer to your original question.

that was a har har since it was derailed by the socks comment... however... I asked a serious question that no one answered either... about the capo thing... do different brands look different or cooler or something or make a different sound/tone for the guitar? Like I-ve never noticed the difference between one capo and another.... I thought they all looked alike... however I am not a capo expert so I figured there had to be a reason for Isis's question... I was guessing maybe it was the questions I asked?

My comment wasn't directed at one person.

I just googled it, and the yes the brand does matter in the sound of the guitar... it also matters with the fit... so if you got the same capo as Bob did, it may not fit your guitar.. or it might

guess what else... some capos can dent the guitar neck

and they make different kinds of capos for different kinds of guitars...

@boston... no, no ... but serious about my question
check this out
I mean it is not about bob but it is about capos
http://www.bing.com/search?q=brand+of+c ... dlt=strict

the first link... that's the one I checked...

I never really pay too much attention to these things, but I think I read somewhere that he used a capo to a lesser extend than some others might?

I think I read that too but I don't know for which era... I thought I read he liked to bar chord it instead..... I could be completely off

I thought I read someone said to him, why don't you use a capo and then they noted that he didn't want to and did these really weird bar chord thingies... or something similar... again I could be waaaaaaaaay off base

He's got a way of playing around things doesn't he, I don't know if this has anything to do with what someone once said, that Bob must have learned certain things about guitar playing from a very old person at the time since he used a very old technique.

I thought I would take a stab at answering your capo question. I think the main reason why people chooses different brands of capos is that there are all kinds of different styles of capos that use different methodologies for clamping the strings. There are strap-on capos, quick change capos (which use clamps to hold the strings), screw-on capos, etc. Some people like one style of capo and others like another style of capo based on how they sound, ease of use, cost, etc. I personally use a Kyser Quick Change Capo. The reason I like it is that when I play the guitar, I use the capo a lot and quick change capos are the fastest capos to move around (you just clamp them on and off). However, sometimes you have to fiddle with them because one or two of the strings will not be quite clamped down which makes for a bad tone. My observation is that screw-on capos create the most consistent best sound but I find it a pain to have to put them on and off. Strap-on Capos tend to be the cheapest capos (and you get what you pay for).

thanks JRJ

I figured it had to be something... I think to certain members it might have seemed like a silly question and they had a bit of fun with it, but I've been in that situation... when something sounds dumb but you really have a legit reason for asking... Some of the responses actually made me laugh like the socks b/c I knew where sgbf was coming from but I had a feeling Isis also had a point. I made my funny comment after that one but I also wanted to point out it was a legit question and people who don't play wouldn't know.... so if Isis hadn't asked this, I wouldn't have thought about it. Since she did, I actually wondered if there was a difference... and by what you just posted and what I read on line, there definitely is!!! So thanks! cool!

And does Bob call it "a cheater"?

As a departed friend of Bob's once said: "That's the vulgate"

Bob Neuwirth in 1965; Victor Maymudes in 1966 (though some argue for Robbie Robertson being his real caporegime that year).

Isis, I don't think you ever got your question answered. If I offended you by mentioning the sock thing, please know that it was done totally light-hearted without any bad intent. (I almost started a guitar pick thread, but glad I didn't). I've always enjoyed your input here. I hope that someone helps you out.
