this Poll: Nashville Skyline

hopefully, this forced choice scenario will feel like warm glass of tea compared to those other tough ones.

I've recently grown to appreciate the difference in attending to one side of a record, versus popping in a long CD that i pass in and out of attention with. and many dylan albums seem to be structured around these segments. so, i'm starting a poll series about preferred sides on vinyl. i'm not really centering on the value of any one song over the other, but rather how each side flows and stands coherently.

Edit: not a warm glass of tea. this isn't easy. the album just taught me it's the one place i actually can get down to Lah Lah Lah.

This one makes me want a side that goes

Girl/Alone/Threw It/N Rag/Tonight

Pines for lost love> discovers new love > blows it with new love > during the instrumental, fixes it somehow on the phone from the station > runs back elated

So since most of the material was on 1, I voted 1. Tonight is my favorite song from the album though, so it wasn't an obvious choice.

I'm with you there Jazz, when i read down the list, i thought i was a side A all the way, but the listen pushed me in the other direction. tonight i'll be staying here with you is one of the songs i learned to sing when taking voice lessons. it was quite fun to do. and a personal fav. I like it more on greatest hits II perhaps, when that voice comes out of nowhere, er rather, from the left field of Maggie's farm. which reminds me, i forgot to do Greatest hits II. More polls to come tomorrow...

I'm surprised by the results, Side A seemed obvious to me.

Why do we have to choose? The album is so short, you could press it on a single side if you wanted to.

Anyway, this is the toughest choice for me so far because I adore the entire album. Every track is a lot of fun. But if you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose a side, it would be side B. "Tell Me That It Isn't True" is my favorite track on Nashville Skyline, and "Lay Lady Lay" is a hell of a song as well. Besides, "One More Night" and "Country Pie" are fantastic, too.

I would miss "I Threw it All Away" from side A, though.

This is a hard one! Nashville Skyline is one of my favorites.
-i finally decided to vote for Side B by process of elimination..... the only song on the
album i'm NOT crazy about is Nashville Skyline Rag on Side A.

- Also, side B has LAY LADY LAY ! 8)

yes, like many of these i centered on what i liked least on the album, here, it was a toss-up between skyline rag and one more night. since there was a subsequent 'track talk' going on about one more night, i must have been pushed to favor that side....
