Actually, he won't see and neither will you. The influence an artist has is not determined by sales alone. In Dylan's case it is more pertinent that there have been over 30000 covers of his songs by other artists. Most of what tops the singles charts today will be forgotten in a flash. Stephen Foster never performed live he simply wrote songs in a variety of musical styles, he died over 100 years ago with a few cents in his pocket, yet people still perform his songs because they still resonate with human experience.

Song structures are elemental, the blues and folk music will survive and they will play a huge part in our understanding of the past. For music to change drastically the human experience would have to alter. The 10 Commandments still define the wrongs we do to one another. It is safe to assume that the songs that get written and the music that is played and listened to will vary in the way we receive it, but will still portray the same emotions.

I am not convinced that your eyes being opened means anything at all. According to your musical judgement, I would suggest having your ears opened.

Depeche Mode are monumentally shite but nowhere near as bad as some of the artists that make the top selling singles of all time. The general public embarrass me. I shouldn't care of course but I think i hate them.
