First RDW in a while!

Depends on how you define "a while", but it's all good!

certainly the first time RDW hasn't been an opener (and last at that) in while... not a suprising set, but there's a fair few interesting numbers... i'd have been happy to see that show myself.

Sounds about right. Not too excited about RDW anywhere in the set, but a 3rd "encore" tune perhaps bespeaks a good night.

I believe Dylan hasn't played a single 17-song set during the past Fall European Tour. The shows usually had 14/15 songs, so I believe it's a nice sign he has started the year with longer sets.

According to BobDylan.com, RDW was last played on August 20th 2011.

Would have loved to see this set (except Spirit and Thunder).

Of course Bob was appearing with Mark Knopfler in last year's fall tour hence the shorter sets... Off the top of my head I think it is the first time Rainy Day Women has appeared in the encore since 2006.

Summer Days and Honest With Me don't interest me much on paper, but of course the important thing is how they sounded! Always happy to hear Spirit on the Water and Blind Willie!

Can anyone confirm if Bob is still playing guitar on Simple Twist? According to the set list from the 1st show it said he was playing Keyboard on it, which would probably change the whole sound of the song all together which has been focused around Dylan's guitar playing in recent years..

The reviewer on Bob Dates says Dylan did play guitar on Simple Twist.

Ah yes my mistake! Big relief as I love the current arrangement of Simple Twist, Bob's guitar playing is very nice and delicate on it usually, much like the vocals.

Can't help but think that Blind Willie McTell's inclusion in the set is a nod to the recent announcement on Levon Helm's condition.

NOPE! It's just usually played on most sunday shows since 2010. (like Don't think twice)

The review for the first Brazil show suggests he was on guitar on Simple Twist Of Fate as per usual.

I'd say the 16 songs on the first night was a warmup of sorts. Most shows where Bob's not sharing the bill are 17, but there's the odd 16 and 18 here or there. Probably often comes down to how they are feeling on the night, how the crowd is etc.

Still remember at Charlie's first return show at The Moore in Seattle... 16 songs with Jolene as the finale. That can't have been planned...

Intrigued by RDW in the encore... first time we've seen it shift away from the normal three/four (Blowin, Watchtower, Forever Young, Rolling Stone) in a long time. Can only hope it wasn't just a spur of the moment thing.

What's wrong with spur of the moment things? And anyhow, it's not very intriguing.
Not dissing you. Just hard for me to get excited or fascinated with RDW anywhere in the set. It's been played to it's max. Of course, being there helps a lot and is much different that arm-chair criticisms. I get that. Rock on richo. Keep that spirit!

I'm glad he searched long and hard through that 600+ song back catalogue to come up with these.

Great setlist. It's been a while since Rainy Day was an encore!
I've still got no laptop and it kills me to stay away from ER now that the tour has started .
Still i find ways to get online ( for a few secs ) daily to check the setlists .
Looks like we have no ER members in Brazil anyway . I hope some of the regular tapers took a little trip there . Anybody got any info on that?

You're right in retrospect... I do hope it was spur of the moment thing. I guess what I was saying more was I hope there'll be a bit more spontaneity across the course of the tour rather than in one single song in one single show.

Not intriguing as a song, but as a step away from those big four it's welcome variety. Not that it's not just as overplayed as them as a show opener...
