Probably a good idea to let that one age a bit anyhow.

It's a young 'un. Sure to reveal it's fine charms, someday. Not knowing which those days may be.

Love and Theft. I purchased it on September 12th 2001. Got pulled over for speeding on my way home. True story.

I remember the release of Modern Times quite well and the hype that surrounded it. I had heard a decent amount of Dylan and appreciated him but I wasn't quite a 'fan' yet. Even though Modern Times was highly recommended by many I thought I should probably get through all of BoTT and BIABH before I bought his latest.

When Together Through Life came around I was fully immersed in his recent output and even had a few recent boots on my iPod. On the day of release I went out and bought it on vinyl (actually they didn't have it on vinyl so I ordered it and got a phone call a few days later). While it certainly leans more towards the lightweight side of things I still appreciate it for bypassing some of the indulgences that plagued Modern Times. I think there could easily be worse albums to be your first new purchase.

Planet Waves was my first purchase on the day of release. During the gap between Greatest Hits II and PW, I had already purchased every Bob Dylan album and bootleg available up to that point. There was tremendous excitement about PW, because of the gap, and the excitement was well founded. Obviously, each new release day is special for me. I remember driving 30 minutes to the record stores and then the 30 minute drive back home (way back then the only music in the car was the radio, although that changed in a couple of years) before you could actually listen to it. Out of tradition, I always go to the store to buy the album to remind me of those special days. There is nothing like a new Bob Dylan album!

Same here mate. I too bought PW on day of release and had bought every album from GH2 in '71 until PW, IIRC that included 'Dylan' and PGaBTW

as for the second abbrev., I didnt write it but i'm guessing its a misprint of 'pat garrett and billy the kid' the soundtrack album which has the original studio version of 'knockin on heaven's door'

Haha. If I recall correctly (IIRC) and should have been (PGaBTK) Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid :)

IIRC? wtf ??

the latest out when i became fan was World Gone Wrong - so the first i had in my collection were WGW, 30th anniversary show, and greatest hits vol 1. I sold WGW back eventually, but i bought it again recently.

The first one to be released while i was a fan was Time out of mind. the NET was ramping up for all those years. it was a good time to be alive.

"Biograph" in the mid-eighties.

Before that, the only thing I had from Bob Dylan was the 1967 greatest hits. When I saw the "Biograph" box (5 vinyl records to be precise!) in the record store (Sam the Record Man, in Montreal), I was intrigued enough to give it a go.

I just wanted to hear more from "that" artist....I've never recovered since then!

when i first heard biograph - it was a mindf**ck trying to piece the chronology of the different voices together without reading the liner notes !
