Don't know why anyone would want to listen to a mix specifically done for quad that has been folded down to stereo. That's just piling stuff on top of itself, and not at all how it was intended to sound in either stereo OR quad.

I certainly don't think it sounds bad but it does sound unnatural. Why are the background vocals upfront? Because it's a quad mix folded down to stereo, that's why.

I haven't heard the Quad of PW, but I find that in general if done well Quad mixes as well as their modern cousins the 5.1 mix can sound quite good and natural.

If anyone has a Quad source, but not a Quad receiver (of 1970's vintage), modern AVR's can process Quad nicely using the Dolby Pro-Logic II DSP mode.

There is a copy on Demonoid, and it's more than 4 gigs.

Quote:
Here we have a version of Bob Dylan's Planet Waves.
This is sourced from the quad Q8 tape and presented
here in 5.1 24/96 LPCM. The rear channels and bass
are enhanced to improve the surround effects and
overall sound of this album.

This shows that 13824kbps can be put onto a
DVDA (plus) and that MLP for 5.1 24/96 is only a
specification requirement rather than a physical
limitation of the medium. Hope you enjoy the sound.
I believe it sounds better as uncompressed LCPM than
it does as the compressed MLP.

This recording may have 2 channels but it's probably not "stereo" and rather is a valid SQ signal.

I might have torrent it before that happens, plus there isn't much of a demand for this one. I believe that there is a quad mix for Nashville Skyline too, but that's far more accessible.

Another question: does one need quad equipment to do a vinyl rip of one? (I'm too lazy to google it.)

What the hell was my demoniod user/pass again?

Update: Shit, someone seed it!

That crossed my mind, but didn't think anyone would get it. Good on you, movin'.

Let me know if the quad rip is any good - never really bothered to investigate, as the album is nice enough but loses airplay to the albums that preceded and followed it.

I know you're paying attention.
Now, what's a "quad rip"?

The rip of the quad Planet Waves that Goodnitesteve is downing from the Demonoid torrent.

Or maybe he's not bothering anymore and has given up in frustration, given there's only one seeder? Havent got a scooby.

Still, 23 percent. I'm thinking about picking up the vinyl and doing a rip myself...it may, will, be quicker.

I'm gonna pick up the Desire Quad while I'm there, 30 bucks each, can't go wrong.

This thing is still crawling to a finish at Demonoid. People could still jump on. There should be around 4 of us with it complete here in a couple of weeks.

63.6% is out there. Should be another 3 weeks. It moves by about 2.5 percentage points a day.

64 right now. It jumped 10 over last night, but I didn't check it until after I posted.
