As you can see by the 7 pages of dialogue on this subject, there was no prior moderator action to any discussion of Bob's prior drug use. The question that caused this thread to be bumped was answered on Page 1 of this topic. I think that's what charles was pointing out. That's all, so stick a sock in it. :|

There's no actual audio in any of those links (at least, that I can see...). All I've found is a ~17 second clip here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/ne ... 493945.stm

While the article here provides many other quotes from the interview:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/ne ... 492886.stm

I'm simply wondering if anything beyond that 17 seconds is circulating (full tape or full news broadcast, perhaps?). And if so, where, as I'd like to add it to my collection.

Maybe there's something over in the Recordings forum... might be worth a look.

At first, James Brown's dreams were chaotic; then in a short while they became dialectic in nature. He dreamed that he was in the center of a circular amphitheater which was more or less the burnt temple; clouds of taciturn fans filled the tiers of seats; the faces of the farthest ones hung at a distance of many centuries and as high as the stars, but their features were completely precise. The Godfather of Soul sang about anatomy, cosmography, and magic: the faces listened anxiously and tried to dance and clap understandingly, as if they guessed the importance of that performance which would redeem one of them from his condition of empty illusion and interpolate him into the real world. Asleep or awake, James thought over the answers of his phantoms, did not allow himself to be deceived by imposters, and in certain perplexities he sensed a growing intelligence. He was seeking a soul worthy of participating in the universe.

Listen to him sing "King Heroin":

Thanks, Lady Medusa.
James Brown was flippin' amazing. Probably Dylan's only rival in postwar popular music.

I'm neither an addict nor a musician, but I suspect that the way it works is that, starting out, musicians take drugs to keep playing, and then, they find themselves playing so that they can keep taking drugs. I don't think that that is the case with Dylan.

I have read somewhere that the motorcycle wreck was not serious, and that he used it as a way to rehab.

Nonetheless, he is a survivor who thrives.

He's still here right?

I take this back. Guess I just didn't want to believe it about our Bob. But last night I was watching Eat the Document. The part where he's riding in the limo with Lennon. OMG!!! Anybody who hasn't seen it Bob is totally out of it, can barely speak, and eventually gets sick. He also does alot of nose rubbing. Which I believe is a common "users" tic. Is this absolute proof? No. But it sure makes you wonder.

Yeah, no it is pretty commonly known that he was absolutely loaded on H at that time. That ride with Lennon, and EVERYTHING he did in that car was consistent with being wasted on junk. The speech, the nodding, the movements, the scratching. I have heard that shortly after the car ride was over that Bob had to be treated for OD symptoms. I can buy it, because you can see him just getting more and more out of it as the ride progresses.

My younger brother died of a Heroin overdose 1 week after his 25th birthday. A terrible shame and waste. I would bet my daughters health on Dylan being strung out on that car ride with Lennon. Just no doubt whatsoever.

Sorry about your brother. I have a brother that's experimenting with drinking himself to death.

Pawnbroker, wow, very sorry about your brother. That video of Bob in the car with John always makes me very sad. We know he came out of it okay but it could have just as easily gone the other way.

By this time I’d-a thought I would be sleeping
In a pine box for all eternity

jimb, I hope your brother gets the help he needs or realizes that he needs help. My grandfather was an alcoholic and died when I was six. I remember him very clearly. He was a very sweet and giving person but the alcohol did him in. I've always been very cautious with alcohol and substances because I know I tend to have an addictive personality (message board, anyone?)

Sorry about your brother, Pawnbroker.
Jim, i hope your brother makes it.

A friend of mine just finished rehab for a big-time drug problem...at least (this time) he
actually made it all the way through the program without walking out.
..i'm praying he sticks with it.

My brother had 3 yrs. sober and then slipped big time. He's back in treatment and I pray he makes it this time. As you say he's the sweetest most giving guy sober. I've seen alcohol ruin alot of good people.

Thanks for the kind thought Queenie and Rager
