Can't add anything that hasn't already been said, but wow, a very impressive remastering.

Highly recommended. Great job by these guys.

Yes , the difference is clear. Fantastic listening experience , excellent rip :D thanks Benny.
Probably silly question : Is there a way i can burn FLAC files to a CD ?

Tragos, download the free program cdburner :

http://cdburnerxp.se/en/home

It burns FLACS and WAV as well as mp3

Thanks. I never use CDs either but i figured i have to save all those beauties i downloaded recently someplace safer . It seems like i don't really have them if they're just files in my computer . I doubt if a cd can actually sound that great though .

Don't worry. It can. Vinyl drops. Full dynamic range, no compression, no clipping!

Slightly off topic, sorry....itunes can't handle flacs, but it can burn aiff files to CD. Is anything lost in the conversion of flacs to aiff ?

(the Hard Rain vinyl remaster is terrific, btw--to make an on topic contribution 8) )

Great sound!! Only made it through first track, but heard an instrument that I'd never noticed before....always a good sign. Unfortunately someone's mowing his lawn nearby and my fingers are twitching with violence. :o

At first I had to get used to the new soundscape of this once so familiar album, but that happened quickly after the first few songs. After the first complete listening, it made me re-appreciate the Rolling Thunder Sound with it's rich sonic textures.
It is a revelation, which was done to this album.

I can only echo the comments already said and reiterate the desirability of this vinyl.
Richer and nuanced. It's now on my wish-list.
Thanks BB

You're right. Though Amazon doesn't have it in stock, a number of its independents sellers do. It's on its way!

Ta Ben.

Never did get the original LP - I have it on a 1980s CBS Select CD. Quick comparison on the PC (crap speakers and all) and the remastered vinyl rip sounds so much cleaner, brighter, detailed (ie, not muddy like the CD). I'll give it a burst on the underused hi-fi at some point.

Summary: these jaded lug'oles hear a tremendous improvement over the CD sound, and a remastered LP goes on the shopping list.

Very well-chosen words to describe the sound of this. And I too appreciate hearing the rip! I've only ever owned the CD and this is (to use a tired audiophile cliche) like having a veil lifted...

Hi everyone - this is my first post - I've been a regular reader of the discussions for some time but never really felt the need to add anything. The past few weeks reading everybody (especially Bennyboy and Tangoman!) salivating over these new pressings of hard rain finally reached a boil yesterday and I went to my local store and got myself a copy. I used to listen almost exclusively to CDs because it was just a bit less hassle than vinyl, but since I bought the box of vision some time ago I have pretty much exclusively listened to dylan on vinyl. When I put on my newly acquired hard rain I could definitely tell the difference, but wasn't sure that I was quite in the camp that most of the people on here seemed to be. However, for a full comparison I pulled out my box of vision and retrieved my hard rain CD - well F*** ME!! It seems I now have 40 odd dylan themed coasters in a pretty box! My Dylan vinyl collection stops somewhere around empire burlesque and so my mind began racing about what the more recent albums might sound like on this new magical vinyl label - I went straight back to the store and purchased love and theft. Yesterday was the first time ever that I've smiled when tweedle dee has played, and after hearing mississippi and high water I was simply amazed!
I felt like it was about time I joined this discussion group and wanted my first post to be a huge thank you to Bennyboy for getting me excited about Bob again for the first time in a long time! Today I need to dig out my hard rain DVD because after listening to this album with new ears I can't get that head bobbing during shelter from the storm out of my mind - has anybody ever looked cooler than Bob during that song!?

Welcome, lone soldier, and thanks for acknowledging the debt we all owe to Benny for his invaluable guidance in All Things Dylan (and Lanegan)! :D :D

My copy has arrived and it sounds lovely, but...what's with the nasty visible scratch in the vinyl on Shelter From the Storm? It doesn't actually make the needle skip - but it looks like it should! Does anyone else's copy have this alarming reminder of why we gave up on vinyl in the first place?

Aside from that, this is stunning. Far more revelatory than the mono mixes of the 60s albums, I think. Listening to Big Girl Now as I type, I'm trying to recall when I was last so enraptured by a record...and I've played this record so often it has burned itself into my soul.

Is this the most important Dylan release in the last ten years? I think it is.

Yep - my copy has scratches on the second side, Brian - not great, I admit.

Anyone else?

But yeah - definitely a timely reminder of how monumental the man once was.

I think Hard Rain was the last testament of Dylan being recognisable as a person I have something in common with. After that, it was Dylan the nutjob.

Everything after Hard Rain was the rantings of someone I didn't know and didn't want to know. Everything before connected instictively, as if he shared my thoughts and had found a way of expressing them: Hard Rain was the peak, when he hit the nail. Side 2 especially. He won every battle with that.

With thanks to Bennyboy and all the comments posted, I've ordered the vinyl.

Would love to hear a Steve Berkowitz remaster of 'Real Live' next.

GOTTA SAY A MASSIVE THANKS FOR THIS, even if your a big girl now wont work for me, but im going to get this on vinyl, staight away i noticed that bobs vocals sound like its just him singing in the arena lots of echo and loveley texture, similarly for the guitar tracks nice and warm with a nice taste and colour. i look forward to the other track but in the mean time thanks and to those who aint heard it go out and buy it its fantastic.
it does make you think if they remastered the footage along with this for a release i had heard about when i joined, finger crossed. cheerio.

Great Thanks to Bennyboy, inspired by him I directly bought it, and it's just beautiful! As someone stated before, the discontinuation in my mind between RTR1 and RTR2 was just blown away! I always had a problem with Bob's different vocals delivery (not in terms of quality). Not to speak about the arena feeling the record gives me now 8)

And, concerning the quote, my copy is excellent without any scratches or damages. Lucky me :)

Edit: What I nearly forgot, I'm so happy that that whistling noise peeplike thing is nearly not audible anymore!
