Just record it on this thread. So far we have potential for:-

1. Perhaps in "Early Roman Kings"

2. Perhaps some in "Scarlett Town"

i think bruce willis or someone made a movie about that. where in the future you could figure out who will commit a crime so you could go on an imprison him right away before the actual crime took place.

The use of the word 'plagiarism' here, in the context of the
nuanced discussion in these parts over several years about the tradition of borrowings in the folk tradition, is beyond tedious.

This is simply a trolling thread. You set the bait and then wait to see what hits it.
Although exciting at times, this subject falls in the "beating a dead horse" category.
Too many soft ball pitches...

Whereas, for me, what's tedious is that people keep going on about "the folk tradition", and misinterpreting that to be "anything goes -- no matter how blatant and unethical a steal it is".

Brilliant as Bob is, I think we need to keep our minds open that perhaps he has invented a time machine, returned to the past to play his songs those persons now regarded as giants and legends, and those shameless scoundrels lifted lines from him. I dare say, I for one am appalled by their lack of originality. It really sickens me.

I think these satisfy the post topic:

3. Joe Biden copied someone awhile ago while giving a speech.

4. My wife, when speaking with her friend, repeated a joke I made up without giving me credit.

Eh? There are already two examples where it looks like he's taken lines not to mention the lifting of "Mannish Boy".

Also - it wasn't Bruce Wilis it was Tom Cruise.

Mr Barefoot - this is not a trolling thread.

There has been substantial discussion about this and I simply want people to record what they find. Still find it incredible that someone do Dylan's stature can claim that he "wrote" "Rolling & Tumbling".

Still find it stunning that people don't realize that Dylan would never leave himself open to legal action in relation to credits claimed on any of his recordings. Many people will sign away their rights for an appropriate fee. Elvis rarely wrote anything, yet his albums are full of claims which earned him royalties which he shared with the actual songwriter or the agency that held the copyright. In many instances they signed away their rights competely for a large upfront fee, knowing that the album was going to sell and they would earn a decent fee.

Dylan has borrowed music and words from day one. The bard did it, everybody basically does it to some extent. Good artists borrow, great artists steal - I think Picasso said that. I'll let you be in my painting, if I can be in yours. Who said that?

Its time for people to stop getting hung up on the process. If they spent more time figuring what it all means, it would be more interesting and rewarding for everyone.

I don't mind it if he adds something to it but I think he fell on his face and it's not seemly when it's a great song to begin with. Blues are time tested lyrics and you have to come up with something brief and pointed. What I mind more is the wholesale lifts from other writers (Tidwell for example). There are subtler ways of doing that sort of thing and Dylan got very lazy. This is a perfectly reasonable thread after L&T and MT.

Henry, who's Tidwell and what did Dylan use of his? Did you just mean Timrod?
