Expecting Rain

It may be a little too early to make a judgement, but I love how his voice sounds. LOVE IT.

Mike Campbell's guitar work complements the song perfectly, that's what he's best at. Really captures the mood. The lyrics are really cool but I think Dylan's vocal could've been mixed a little better. Good performance all around. Awesome ending that sounds the way a black and white movie looks.

This is the opening track right? I think it sounds very L&T-ish. Very good opening.

I love the guitar. And the voice!

Yup, this is the opener. I think it's actually a little bit Under-the Red-Sky-esque. In a good way, I guess. I'm a little frightened that this is the lead release. Hopefully the vocals on the rest of the album will be higher in the mix. I don't like how the instruments are so dramatically panned either. The whole thing lacks the smoothness of MT or the crispy clarity of L&T. Almost as murky as TOOM, but no weird effects.

The ending is my favorite part. And the crazy cool guitar tone that Mike Campbell uses, especially around 2:30. I'd bet that it's the red ES-335 he was using on the last TP tour.

i thought that was a bizarre line:
'down in the street there's a window
and every window made of glass'
did i hear that right?

but this one's nice:
'well i'm movin after midnight
thru boulevards of broken cars!'

overall it's a fun track.
very nihilistic eh?

The subtleties of the song are very tightly constructed, intimate, dark and lustful.

I appreciate the 'ship' image being here, I know someone mentioned it before but the idea that in Medieval navigation maps, areas beyond their charter or knowledge were described by saying 'Beyond Here Lies Nothing' and often illustrated with 'moons and stars' as if this unknowable space is an extension of the the heavens, a starry void.

'well, my ship is in the harbor,
and the sails are spread'

I think it's "Down every street there's a window/And every window's made of glass". Not sure either.

That's what I hear, although he swallows the 's, as he's sometimes prone to do.

Wow, NOTHING like the 30 second clip.....I dig it!
The accordion after every line is still a bit of overkill, but I still am really excited for it.


Let me put it this way- if I were a casual observer and listened to the 30 second clip, I may not buy the album. If I were a casual observer listening to that entire song, I would definitely buy the album

More lyrically succinct than every song on Modern Times other than "When the Deal Goes Down." Just four verses here. I liked it, neat way to start an album. His voice sounds awesome.

And really, if it reminded me of anything (and this is weird to say), it reminded me of Street-Legal, just with the horns and all. Of course, Street-Legal sucked, and this sounds good, so the similarities don't go too far.

I'm loving the opening kick--just the way to start an album. And then it slides into a smooth guitar line, with horns popping up occasionally. Just as the song's cooling down, Dylan comes in and tears it up with his vocals. Amazing beginning, and hopefully the prelude to a great album.

Oh man, I like it, but I don't like the guitar.... I think the song lacks push... I only heard it on my computer so far, and I am going to go play it now on my stereo system... maybe it will sound better

It's alright. I like the gypsy/border tinge. His vocal is way rough, which isn't in and of itself bad, (think L&T) but it's noticeably more "damaged" what was heard on MT, Tell Ol' Bill, 'Cross The Green Mountain, etc.

I feel like it's mastered a little too loud/harsh. It sounds like it clips a little when the horns come in.

Lyrically, it's nothing special. But not bad.

Hope the whole album has a loose feel like this, sounds like a lot fun, good moving around energy, sounds very live and true, the vocals and guitar etc. fit like a glove......

Yeah, it's produced by some nobody jerk named Jack Frost. That guy probably has no clue about Dylan's awesome voice so he probably just jacked down the volume at the mixer. I'll bet it's the same guy that unplugs Dylan's keyboard on stage as well. Dylan should fire that guy. He's a real loser.

It's great! I only wish I could play it louder and for longer, I'm off for a week or so now.
