^^ Yeah, things appear to be, let's say, a whole order of magnitude more bizarre than the world imagined in the writing of the original post in this thread.

Thanks for posting, Fred. A really enjoyable read.

I headed over to this thread to post the same link/article, but you're a week ahead of me. Now, I am told that slow is the new fast. So, things are looking up for the likes of me.

Wow I don't know how I stumbled across this thread but I am going to bump it so I can read it later. Maybe this will have implications in regards to the Noble lecture some people got mad at Bob about

Many of the posters in this thread seem happy to accuse Dylan of plagiarism. However the fact is he has developed and evolved these ideas and themes and turned them into something new. To me plagiarism (and it is my own interpretation of the word) is taking the original and passing it off as their own, eg students copying bits out of a textbook and submitting them as their own work for an essay.
What Dylan does is draw on the rich foundations of literature from Classical Greek and Roman times , through traditional folk songs of many times, as well as invoking poets such as Shakespeare etc.
This has been done by most writers throughout history including such greats as Shakespeare and Steinbeck.
As far as Dylan is concerned this has never been a secret, I can remember discussions etc about this as early as 1970 and no doubt it was happening before I was aware of it.
It seems to have become an obsession with many people to trace every line Dylan has ever written and point out how it was taken from another author.
If that gives you pleasure , then well and good.

Yup.

And I find that knowing the allusions make the songs the richer.
