The MEZ enjoys the versions he's heard, which are only a few granted. I'd like more info on this song, it's origins, how many times played & best versions, posts, etc etc.

Great electric version Truth! That was my first. Does anyone else have anymore electric suggestions?

One of those great rare covers sung from 88-92 that got better as it developed through the years. Dylan sang this song originally in the house of the Gleasons in 1961 after learning it from Woody. It's a great performance and a clear telling of the story for a fidgety 19 year old runt.
It was derived from an older song called Hills Of Mexico which Bob later sang in the Basement.
Bob used the line 'My trip it was a pleasant one' in Drifter's Escape on JWH.
The journey chronicled in Isis was clearly modeled after the hunter's in this song.

My favorite's got to be Madison WI 1991...very powerful performance here...

All of the 1988 versions are great. 6-25-88 Holmdel comes to mind, but they are all great. And that 1989 Den Hagg version is on fire.
