According to Mark Howard, the engineer who recorded most of Oh Mercy, Ron Wood produced an early version of Oh Mercy. "So, on Oh Mercy, I’m not sure if he had an actual sound in his head to begin with. But he had actually recorded this whole record before it came to us. With Ron Wood. There’s a whole version of Oh Mercy that was recorded with Ron Wood already. But I think Dylan had maybe decided he didn’t like what had happened."

That would have been an Oh Mercy without Man In The Long Black Coat and Shooting Star which were both written in New Orleans during the recording of the released album. Does anyone have more information/track list for the Ron Wood sessions?

Its bound to be rubbish.

After all, as the song implores, you gotta knock Ron Wood, baby.

I imagine that it would probably be demos featuring Ron Wood backing Bob, rather than an actual finished album. Either way, it would be an interesting listen.

Maybe these songs will see the light of day on a future BS release? The Oh Mercy oeriod surely would deserve such a release. One CD with the Ron Wood version of Oh Mercy (if such a version exists)? Why not? I would be interested...

I have at the back of my mind that I’ve read something like this somewhere...if so and the quality would be like that of the acoustic Most of the time it would indeed be interesting.
