Hi Folks

I've been watching this fabulous clip from one of the recent shows in Paris and transcribing the new lyrics to "Serve Somebody." He sang the same words or similar when I saw him in AZ last fall. I think I have most of them now, but I'm stuck on a couple lines: one at 16:56 in the second verse, after, "You may be in a honky-tonk," and the second at about 19:13, after, "You may be on the borderline."

Here's what I've got:

You may be an ambassador to England or France
You might like to gamble, you might like to dance
You might be in Las Vegas
Having lots of fun
Or hiding in the bushes
Holding a smoking gun
But you're gonna have to serve somebody . . .

You may be in a honky-tonk
. . . .
searching through the rubble
with a fine tooth comb
They may call you Peter
They may call you Paul
You may not even have a name
They may call you nothing at all
But you're gonna have to serve somebody . . .

You might be on the highway
Down along the coast
Maybe you're hallucinating
You might be seeing ghosts
They might call you Mystic
They might call you Mr. Soul
You might be on the way up
You might be on a roll
But you're gonna have to serve somebody . . .

You might be someone's neighbor
Some sweet mother's son
Someone's jealous husband
Someone on the run
You may be on the borderline
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . port (?)
or maybe you're a lawyer
you'll have your day in court
But you're gonna have to serve somebody . . .

Great new lyrics, in my opinion. Any help with those missing lines? Thanks.

Check out the Mondo Scripto catalogue. He used the new lyrics there.

Here you go:

"You may be in a honky-tonk
or in a nursing home

You may be on the borderline
holding down the fort"

oh, and in the third verse it is:

"You might be on the wagon
You might be on a roll"
