Anyone know anything about Bobby Gregg (dr) ? Who he ? Levon Helm's understudy ? NYC session bod ? Where'd he come from ? Who else he played with ?

>And WHO is Bobby Gregg (drums) ? Still keen to know ....

From Spitz's _DYLAN a Biography_ pp318-319:

"Mike Bloomfield, the album's brilliant lead guitar player, had left to
play the blues with his former sidekick, Paul Butterfield, and drummer
Bobby Gregg split soon after to fulfill an overload of studio commitments.
In their places were a couple of guys from a Toronto band, the Hawks--
Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm."

and

"Whereas Bobby Gregg was a disciplined drummer who performed much like a
metronome, Levon improvised at will and kicked up a rhythm like an
unmuzzled machine gun."

That's all I've found so far. So....

Bobby Gregg: Drummer of history, honorable man, eclipsed by more history.

Bobby Gregg , couldÊhe be the same Bobby Gregg that replaced Tucker Green in 1954
with Steve Gibson and the Redcaps?
Prior to that Bobby appeared many times on the Paul Whitman talent show on tv.
A philadelphia talent.
