Influenced by Chet Atkins, Martin carthy, Bert Janch, Davey Graham; his playing is percussive similarly to Carthy's, rather more restrained and ornamental......... His "Penguin Eggs" (1980 on Topic) raised him to the ranks of the best, Melody Maker folk album of the year described as 'truly essential'........ With star in the ascendant, was critically injured in a car crash 1982, had not fully recovered [as of] 1987. - Me again. The above mentioned "Penguin Eggs" includes Canadee-i-o and Farewell to The Gold, which Bob sang in late 1992. Jones has now made a partial recovery, enough to be able to sing back up on a couple of albums recently, but as far as I know has not been able to return to singing and playing the guitar. And he is/was damn good. - Matthew
