Barry Feinstein was the exclusive tour photographer on Bob Dylan and The Band's legendary 1966 and 1974 World Tours. In this documentary feature film, Feinstein and Director Joel Gilbert chronicle these epic Bob Dylan tours, featuring over 150 selections of Feinstein's finest portraits - most revealed for the first time - in this extraordinary document of Bob Dylan and rock music history.

For the years in between, Gilbert visits Woodstock and Greenwich Village, New York, where he investigates Dylan's secluded life before his return to the road in 1974. Gilbert recreates the singer-songwriter's 1966 motorcycle accident, pays a visit to Big Pink, examines Dylan's first encounter with The Beatles, and even confronts fanatic Dylanologist A.J. Weberman. Interviews with filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker, rock journalism godfather Al Aronowitz, Band drummer Mickey Jones and surprise guests help reveal Bob Dylan's hidden history behind Feinstein's astonishing images'

I have had one report of the DataBase Submissions Form not working.  I have been receiving some input, and several test have been successful, so I don't know why or how common the problem is.  I am told it appears to work but no data is transmitted.  If you make a submission and it does not appear in the database at the next update, please inquire and/or re-submit via  E-MAIL.  Please note that submissions are not entered directly into the database, but will be included in the next update, which will be made regularly depending on time & new content.

I have added 4 Michel Montecrossa CDs that were released during 2004, 2 in VOCALS and 2 in  NEAR MISSES.  Apparently I have been dropped from Mira-Sound's press and promotional list,  as I no longer receive press releases or promotional material.  So I don't have any of these, nor can I find them for sale at any of the normal retailers that carry the older titles (other than Empire Burlesque # at Amazon-UK for £20+!)  If anyone has them, I could use: a) catalog numbers, b) play times, c) are the EB# tracks new recordings or repeats from the earlier CDs? and d) Any retail sources.  Contact me here.  Note: I am only requesting information, I am not searching for the CDs at this time.

You can access the new pages by clicking the new button on the DYLAN COVER ALBUMS  MAIN PAGE
The Collector's Guide consists of illustrated discographies of the Dylan covers of over 70 artists,  with over 500 new records illustrated. Each discography shows the original sources of the artist's Dylan covers, plus examples of later compilations or reissues of interest.  Please note that it is not the intent to list every subsequent reissue of each cover, nor every variation of the records displayed.  Only official recordings are included.  As always, additions, corrections or comments are always welcome, as well as suggestions for additional artists  (with a minumum of  3 covers from at least 2 different sources.)  Future expansion may include pages devoted to topics or styles (i.e. Jazz, Bluegrass, Irish, Gospel, etc.),  or pages devoted to covers of individual songs.

June  10, 2004  HANAWAY BAND REVISITED
Newly discovered (by Michael Tearson, thanks!) in the discount rack at Wal-Mart (the giant department store chain here in the US), is a CD containing 11 of the 14 tracks previously heard as by The Hanaway Band.   THE LEGEND - BOB DYLAN  is credited to "The Stars at Studio 99," and is part of a series of cheap (under $5) tribute albums by Legacy Entertainment of Canada, presumably derived from the UK CDs by Studio 99, a few of which are listed on the Non-Dylan Tributes page.  You may recall many on-line sellers listed The Hanaway Band CD as by Studio 99 a couple of years ago, when they were released by the related labels Maverick and Going For A Song.  This new series adds the "Stars at" prefix.  The CD was not easy to find though,  I only found one  copy in visits to  five  Wal-Marts!
June  8, 2004  LO AND BEHOLD AGAIN
Coulson, Dean, McGuinness, Flint's 1972 Dylan covers album “Lo & Behold” has beein reissued in Japan, packaged in a limited edition Japanese-style "mini-LP" sleeve.  The new reissue retains the 3 bonus tracks of the 1996 Australian/Raven CD,  but reverts to the original UK "blue with wizard" artwork.  So far I have not seen it offered at any Amazon site, but it is shown here: http://www.neolithrecords.com/m_mann.htm

“Is It Rolling, Bob?” the upcoming Reggae tribute CD, is scheduled for release on August 10.  Some of the tracks are Knockin' on Heaven's Door by Luciano, and Just Like a Woman by Beres Hammond. Toots Hibbert, Michael Rose and The Mighty Diamonds also contribute tracks.  Also included is a rare remix of Dylan's 1983 album track I and I  that features the duo Sly & Robbie.

I have added a few "unofficial" single artist compilations to the  UNOFFICIAL  page.  These are albums that are documented elsewhere on the internet, and have standardized artwork.  In most cases these have been available via free trading or treed by fan groups.  Until now I have listed only unofficial  various  artist compilations.  Newly added are:

I have also added the 6 CD-Rs in Tokyo Bob's BOOTLEG SERIES.  Although these are "not for sale" CDRs, they are freely traded among collectors.  Since they are shown on the artist's website, I consider them semi-official so have added them in the VOCALS section with the official Tokyo Bob CDs.

• “Been All Around This World” by Jerry Garcia & David Grisman  is an album of all unreleased tunes featuring Garcia on vocals.  The 12 song set includes traditionals plus songs by Merle Travis, Jimmie Rodgers, James Brown, Mel Tillis and more, including Dylan's The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest.   To my knowledge, this is the first commercially released English-language cover of the song.

According to  WORLD WIDE WAS, the Was (Not Was) website, members of the group are recording an album consisting of Bob Dylan songs performed in the style of early '50s Chicago blues. Songs will be performed live starting at the Sundance Film Festival, Jan 22.  The project is billed as "Sweet Pea Atkinson & The Was (Not Was) Quintet," and features vocals by Sweet Pea Atkinson.  An mp3 of  Dignity  from the album is available on their site.  No released date is given.........Thanks to Dan Jordan for the tip
